I was about to order a couple of items - about 20.00 worth of stuff - and the only shipping methods available to me range from 20+ dollars up to 127 dollars. This is for US delivery. I've never encountered this before.

I was about to order a couple of items - about 20.00 worth of stuff - and the only shipping methods available to me range from 20+ dollars up to 127 dollars. This is for US delivery. I've never encountered this before.
The issue you are seeing is due the items themselves. If you look at the product description for the gaming paper, you will see that this product must always be shipped by itself in a shipping tube.
Therefore, the shipping is a separate fee for each item in your cart. This is why it's so much: it's a bunch of different shipments added together.

Ironically, this disclaimer was disabled accidentally during a rewrite that actually makes shipping products like gaming paper cheaper—the old code didn't understand that multiple rolls could be combined into a single tube, and the new code does.
Unfortunately the new code also is slightly dumber than the old code in that it doesn't currently display an explanation for these kinds of products. This will be fixed.
