3PP Products for GMs

My players have no interest in most 3PP products, being more than happy with the current Pathfinder RPG classes, races, etc. Thus, if you're a 3PP, tell me about your products aimed specifically at the GM (e.g., alternative rules, settings, mods, templates, monster books, etc.).

If you need monsters, you should check out Tricky Owlbear's Forgotten Foes and Rite Publishing's Book of Monster Templates.

Tricky Owlbear also has two locale products aimed at the GM: Abbey of the Golden Sparrow and The Favored of Skexxiz.

I'm kinda in the same boat. As a player, I love some of the products that 3pp's are coming out with, and would love to play with some of it. But, I hardly ever get a chance. So, I usually use some of that when I'm GMing.

However, it would be nice to see some stuff aimed more toward GMs. I'm sure there are plenty of awesome 3pp's out there that can (and will) respond to this thread. =)

Not a 3PP, jus a fan of some.

So, some GM goodies:
Super Genius Mythic Menagerie series. Lots and lots of monsters around a common theme. So far they've done Constructs, Undead, Harpies, and a Christmas themed one for a less seious campaign. They've also just starte a new line, Codex Draconis, that deatils drahons at all stages of life, one type per PDF. And one night stands, simple stand alone adventures.

Rite Publishing Evocotive Sites. Tailor made urban adventure encounters or jusr background. They've also got their own campagn setting, Questhaven, a city run by adventurers, but I haven't got that so can't comment directly.

Alluria Publishing. Fey Folio and Creepy Creatures. Two monster books featuring Fey and aWideAssortment of vile terrors in the other. They, too, have a campsign setting out, Cerulean Seas, which is an under ocean campaign.

Adamant Entertainment. Three mini bestaries. Warfare, system for running battles, although it is much more wargamey than Pathfinder's own more abstract system.

Open Design. Apart from Kobold Quarterly, packed full of goodies, they produced Sunken Empires to run a sea based campaign. Also has their Midgard setting (haven't got that one, either).

Trivky Owlbear. Have Forgotten Foes, a collecion of older edition creatures. Although many have now been Pthfinderised in the Betiary 2, this bok is still good to throw variants at players who know too much.

Jon Brazer Enterprises: Books of the River Kingdom. Includes a bestiary, and kingmaker rules for running a realm.

Obviously, there sre plenty of other good 3PP. And, even if he players don't want new options, that doesn't mean the GM should miss out, does it?

It's not written exclusively for GM's, but Torn Asunder: Critical Hits PFRPG Edition will give you more options for critical hits and healing. Dark_Mistress has a very fair review of the book posted along with the product discussion that addresses a couple of typos and rules.

Besides what was mentioned above (thanks Tricky and Paul) we have an adventure The Living Airship

Coliseum Morpheuon and its Faces of the Tarnished Souk

#30 series which is about rewards and challenges, so far we have done haunts and some magic itmes.


For LPJ Design the three best products I would suggest would be Horrific Fears, Blood and Sand: The Gladiator Sourcebook and Skyships of Nova Avalon. If you are a GM I thinki these are very much the kind of product you would like to have.

I would add, also from Open Design:

Tales of the Old Margreve: with spooky forest mechanics, monsters, spells and incantations.

Imperial Gazetteer: More monsters, a ghoul race option, feats, spells.

And both of the Monster Chronicles series, the Nightmare and Inevitable

Streets of Zobeck and Northlands are both due out April-ish, and should be GM-focused.

Classes and races can be for the GM, too. Want to really shake things up at the game table? Make the BBEG a class and/or race none of players know anything about.

So, along that line, I'd say everything we've produced at 4 Winds Fantasy Gaming is as much for the GM as it is the player.

Zombie Sky Press has a few things GMs should check out.

Here Be Monsters: Aching for Blood (Mosquitofolk) starts off a series of new monsters with extras (including mini-adventures).

Incantations in Theory and Practice and Incantations from the Other Side: Spirit Magic bring incantations to Pathfinder, dangerous new magic that's useful to GM and player alike.

And The Faerie Ring: Along the Twisting Way Prelude begins an ongoing sourcebook for the fey.

Wow it's great to have fans who promote your stuff!

In addition to Paul Watson's awesome list, I'd offer up the 8 Loot 4 Less books which offer magic items that cost 2,500 gp or less, without resorting to potions, scrolls and similarly charged items. A number of GMs have told me they find creating hoards, especially at low levels, much easier with those books.

And if you like alternate treasure ideas as a GM, the Krazy Kragnar books and Rune Staves & Wyrd Wands have more items you can reward, confuse, or punish your players with.

For Rite Publishing I wrote 101 Malevolent Magical Items, a product of which I am fairly proud. Its 101 cursed items of various levels of cursedness with which to challenge your players.

Steve mentioned the #30 series already, but I'll put in another plug for them for GMs. Tarren Dei's two haunt books are very good and while it may seem on the surface to be a Player's book, my own #30 Unique Magical Blades was really written with GMs in mind who want to improve their game by making magical blades more magical and unique. I know that just writing it helped me to think about magical weapons a little differently and I'm now trying to make sure the adventures I am writing incorporate the same ideas into them.

A little further afield, I would encourage GMs to get involved in Patronage projects, where you get to have input into the creation of adventures and campaign settings. Open Design has some going at any given time, as does Rite Publishing.

I have to second this-- these are the definitive documents for incantations, providing a framework for Old World style magic, voodoo, or Cthulhu-Mythos-like magic from beyond. The Theory and Practice document is what should have been added to the core book for incantation support. If you want to create some interesting magic where the whole party can participate in the casting, you want Theory&Practice.

Just to elaborate on that:

The Book of Arcane Magic gives you about 100 new spells and a dozen new blood lines for sorcerers, perfect for dealing with adventurers who think they've seen everything.

The Book of Divine Magic offers 21 new faiths, many new spells, and lots of new feats for divine casters, including animal companions for Clerics.

Paths of Power offers new bases classes, an element wizard class variant, and prestige classes, as well as NPC classes to use for and against the players. Among the classes are a Witch and Antipaladin that predate and function differently than their APG counterparts.

Luven Lightfinger's Gear & Treasure Shop is full of goodies to put players on the receiving end of, especially when it comes to arrows - barbed and varieties of armor piercing ones come immediately to mind.

Strategists & Tacticians contains unique prestige classes, a number of new feats, and whole new combat maneuvers. Having a baddie using throat threats, dirty fighting, and limb-severing techniques will shake up your players nicely.

Albion Armitage's Astounding Arsenal is a good one-shot adventure you can just drop into a campaign, suited for 8-10th level and can be scaled up or down a bit.

Inkantations provides rules for magical tattoos and body art to function as magical items, which can throw a real curve at your players when that inked dancing girl suddenly starts unleashing arcane power off her very skin.

Jon Brazer Enterprises understands busy GMs. I am one after all. We have:

We working on similar versions of each (NPC Assassins of the River Nations, owlbear encounters, and Inn, Tavern, and Drinking Hall Names) but we had to put them aside while we're trying to get the Book of the River Nations: Complete Player Reference to Kingdom Building (also suitable for GMs) ready for the printer (currently available for pre-order).

I hope these are as useful to busy GMs as they are to me.


Also don't be afraid to use the new classes as well nothing like having a Dragonrider from Super Genius Games as a BBEG, or heck even a Kestral (Races of Wind and Wing SSG) Adept Godling (Also from the Geniuses). New races and classes can be as much a tool for DM's as they are neat swag for players.

0one Games released The Great City: Urban Creatures and Lairs specifically for GM use. Actually, aside from the Great City Player’s Guide, most of their products are geared toward the GM, from their urban adventures and campaign setting to their line of maps and counters. Urban Creatures and Lairs contains 20 monsters (some with variants), a map of a sample lair, and a short set of encounters involving the monster in their lair. Nice modular bits to plug into your current campaign or a nice frame to build your own adventures.
