Hey all,
I'm about to start a high level campaign (actually a continuation of a campaign from some years ago) and a new player is going to be playing a 14th level human ranger.
I'm hoping to get some advice on the feat and magic item selection for this build.
The player is interested in some decent bow skills and his ideal fighting style would be bastard sword with buckler and short short sword in off-hand. This is because he likes this style out of game, not because of any mechanical advantages it might have.
I'm looking for advice on how I can make this feasible for him. Barring that Bastard sword and shield would be his next choice.
He's got 4 combat style feats to choose, and 8 feats from class levels and his human bonus feat. The only feat he's expressed a strong interest in is combat expertise.
His current stats (with some boosting items already purchased) are:
Str 16, Dex 19, Con 12, Int 13, Wis 16, Cha 8.
He has 86,000 gp to spend (we're running with low treasure).

Is bastard sword really required? It's not a particular great use of a feat (I typically houserule it into martial weapon status) but I can work around it if necessary for concept.
The essentials for the Bastard + Short Sword + Buckler build:
EWP: Bastard Sword
TWF
ITWF
Weapon Focus: Bastard Sword
Double Slice
Two Weapon Rend
Power Attack
Highly suggested
Iron Will
Weapon Finesse (yes it's only a +1 to hit over using strength)
Imp Crit: Bastard Sword
Crit Focus
Furious Focus or WF: Short Sword
It's about as pared down a feat selection as I can reasonable produce.
I can't tell what stat boosters have been bought but I imagine a Str+Dex belt and maybe a Wisdom Headband.
Key magic items: I'm not pricing out everything but kinda guessing based on low resources.
Breastplate +x
Buckler +x
Triple booster belt (ungodly expensive even at +2)
Headband +2 Wis
Cloak of Resistance +3
Bastard Sword +2
Short Sword +2
Ring of Protection +1
Amulet of Natural Armor +1
Longbow +1 (ranged backup)
Handy Haversack
Potions and miscellaneous junk.
