CHICAGO RACE RIOTS
---------+--------
Military now in Control.
The Race riots in Chicago continued for
four days, but on thursday last the
Authorities gained control, when the
millitary were called out. Three thousand
troops are patrolling the streets, and a
similar number is being held in reserve.
An area of eight square miles in extent,
occupied chiefly by negro families, had been
cut off from the rest of the city, and no
food or other supplies were allowed to reach
the negro section by the white rioters. It
was feared that many children might die
of privation unless food reached them, and
the authorities organized relief.
Many negro dwellings were burned by
the rioters, and some negros were shot,
and their bodies burned in the streets.
