Hi all, i need some advice on creating wiz/eldritch knight with also a level in rogue (this character also wants trapfinding). I know a little weird combo, but thats what i want to build :-) what would you choise?
Depends on how many levels of EK you ultimately want. If you desperately want maximum spell levels and trapfinding is all you want out of rogue, go rogue 1/wizard 8/ranger 1/EK 10. This gets you 1d6 sneak attack and trapfinding, a favored enemy, all martial weapons (a prerequisite for EK), and you will effectively cast spells as a level 17 wizard when you hit level 20.
Another way to go about this build, if you're cool with being less of a spell-slinger and more of a melee skirmisher, is to take the scout archetype from the APG and 8 levels of rogue, 5 levels of wizard, and one level of barbarian, fighter, or ranger (again, you need ALL martial weapons). The downside here is that you will only be able to cast as a 10th level wizard at level 20 - but in exchange, you can do some serious melee damage when combining the scout archetype's skirmisher ability with the Spring Attack feat.

If the character concept is slightly sneaky/alert guy who casts a good bit of arcane spells but also doesn't completely suck at combat, I would just play a single class Bard with the Detective archetype from the APG, which has the trapfinding ability.
If that's not what you want, and 3 levels of Urban Ranger is too much, I would just do Fighter 1/Rogue 1/Wizard till you qualify for EK, then EK the rest of the way. If you are going to high levels, work on a critical build to max out effectiveness for EK Critical Strike. Universalist Wizard probably, so you can apply Still Spell to any spell cast with Critical Strike if you want to avoid spell failure chance in armor. Your caster level will not be maxed so focus on buffs and spells that don't worry a lot about SR.

To much with to little. You might want to rethink this befor you end up with problems. If your using Wizard it's very easy to pick up skill points for rogue skills. Then all you need is vagabond child trait to have disable device as a class skill.
Personly I don't see the EK as a effective. The game dose not let you be good at two difrent things at the same time. There are ways around some things. But this is not one of them. Divine casters mix well with melee classes. No armor restrictions. And you don't have to wory about spell DC on heals and buffs.
