Spell Perfection-Quickened Color Spray

Advice

Hey people,

How viable is it for an oracle of the heavens w/ awesome display at 15th lvl to pick up spell perfection for color spray so that they cay drop out free quickened color sprays in addition to whatever they were otherwise doing?

Is there a better spell to be using this on? It seems like an awesome way to spam lvl 1 spells at high dcs as a swift action. DC wouldn't be too bad either since focus/greater focus is doubled. 15+cha mod, 16 if you are a gnome.

Color Spray simply doesn't scale well vs high CR targets.

Range is bad = many high CR foes are going to be hit you with reach
High CR foes often have layered defenses= Good saves and spell resistance at a minimum.
One round stunlock isn't spectacular- You are basically burning a swift action every round to keep a small number of foes potentially locked down.

I think perfected SoL spells like flesh to stone or baleful polymorph represent better uses for this feat. Persistent Baleful + quickened baleful is a nice combo.

Enervation is also a great candidate for spell perfection as a quickened enervation can be used to substantially reduce the defenses of a BBEG. Quickened Enervation + Persistent SoL is a very lethal combo.

Personally though I'm not a big fan of Spell Perfection (or Persistent Spell) and would be exceedingly unlikely to let them into a game simply because they can undo a lot of the caster vs martial balance that PF tried to put into the game.

I agree with Vuron. The creatures you will be fighting at level 15+ will probably be making their saves vs color spray. What kind of roll do you want to play in your party? If you have to heal a whole lot spell perfection heal wouldn't be the worst choice in the world. You could quicken, or reach it for free. Not to bad.

If you really have your heart set on color spray you would do well to take heighten spell. Have it use up a 1st level spell slot but have the DC of a 8th or 9th level spell, depending on what you can cast. Of course then you would have to use a standard action to cast it, or burn a 5th level spell slot to quicken it.

Flame strike is an ok blast. Probably not your best bet, but if you are a fan of blasting it is an option.

I am a fan of wall of stone. You could become a bit of a battlefield controller. Dropping quickened walls of stone all over.

Really it depends on the roll you want to fill.

I got phantasmal killer up to dc 38 with this (persistant with focused spell hightened)...(two saves?.. yea.. good luck anyway)

or a dc 43 fireball.

In my 15 lvl game a player did fireball and gets the dc up to like 34 or so..(FREAKING HIGH FOR FIREBALL..)

also spell perfections is about the only thing pathfinder did somewhat right...they gave ALL the classes something awesome in that book... bout time they let ONE spell fly..

Note you can not take perfect spell TWICE... only ONCE.

(CLOUDKILL is another good alternative.. (quicken with wall of force or forecage)
