Is there anywhere stated what Zagyg's Divine Rank is? (Don't have 3.5 Deities & Demigods...) I know he's a demi-god, so its 1-5. Does anyone have that info?
Thanks,
Greg
IIRC Zagyg wasn't in the 3.5 Deities & Demigods. There are 1st edition stats for him in Dragon 70
someone reprinted them here

I may actually have that issue somewhere! Thanks for the heads-up. And I just found a preview of Deities on Amazon. It had the table of contents, so I could see that there was no Zagyg.
Thanks for the link.

Deities & Demigods was 3.0, and the Divine Ranks AFAIK never made it into 3.5 products.
It did in the Paizo products. Age of Worms spoiler ahead...
Regardless, I don't believe Zagyg was ever statted up w/ divine ranks; just called a demigod.
I think you're right about that. Thanks, I'm gonna have to wing it.

I've never really thought of Zagyg as being much more than a Demigod.
I'd give him Divine Rank 1.
He is a demi-god as per the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer. And considering Iuz is Divine Rank 3 and has a greater following (if the sheer number of Iuz cultists in the various GH material I have is any indication) than Zagyg, I certainly don't think I'd give him more than 2. But I was curious if there was a published source out there I was missing.
Thanks,
Greg

I think DR 2 or 3 is perfect. He'd be a 1 if he was newly elevated, and a 5 if he was on the cusp of becoming a lesser god. Fine tuning beyond that is up to you. Yes Iuz has more followers and is a 3, but Zagyg has been around a lot longer...all depends on what you think raises your DR.
This is all academic, though. Not sure what practical use these fine distinctions would have in-game...
Thanks for the 3.5 spoiler, which makes a lot of sense.

I've got the germ of an idea helped out by this other thread where my next campaign will involve Zagyg trying to ascend to Lesser God-hood at Iuz's (and maybe Vecna's) expense.
My idea would be that if he can "syphon-off" divine ranks from either of them, then he can elevate himself. (It would be a one-for-one kinda deal, and hence my curiosity into Zagyg's status. I could hand-wave it away, I suppose, but I was curious.)
Not sure yet what part the party will play in all this. The thought I have now is that they will get to choose in the end who to help: Zagyg, Iuz, or Vecna. I would want to not make it slam dunk by implying rather significant consequences should Iuz or Vecna lose demi-god status. I could also switch Vecna out for a good aligned demi-god make it even more problematic to choose.
But it's really just a mote of an idea now. So I'm digging around for info to help flesh it out.

I see where you're going now. I think Vecna's out of consideration, though. He's a Lesser power and, w/ DR 10, on the cusp of an Intermediate power. Here's some other iconic GH demigods you might want to play around w/ in his stead:
Al'Akbar (LG); Mayaheine (LG); Merikka (LG); Rudd (CN); Stern Alia (LN); Wastri (CN); Ye'Cind (CG); and Zuoken (N).
What you're proposing sounds like fun. I've done the same or similar in my homebrew GH, where Vecna was the perpetrator and other gods where killed off at his expense. Lots of fun.

By jove, you're right. I don't know why I thought he was a demi-god. Yeah, I think he's off limits.

Thanks for the list. Mayaheine was off limits for a few minutes there - she played a big role in my last campaign - (party had a cleric and paladin of Mayaheine at the end, and she even showed up in one off-camera encounter with those two party members) but now that I think about it, she might be just the right one to put opposite to Iuz. Sacrifice Mayaheine to remove Iuz, or let them both "live".
Rudd has potential since she was already once in Zagyg's God trap and opposes him.
Another interesting idea. Food for thought. Thanks,
Greg
