Point-buy system?

Can anyone tell me where online I can find the tables for creating characters with the point-buy system?

I usually like to witness my players rolling for abilities but this one time that I finally trusted them to roll when I was not around, every character has, like, at least two 18's and nothing below a 15! I know the Savage Tide AP is a little rough but I don't want my players breezing through it!

No, but I can tell you how it works.
.

Every stat begins at 8. Extra points in a stat cost:

9-14: 1 point each
15-16: 2 points each
17-18: 3 points each

So a 10 in any stat costs 2 points, a 14 costs 6 points, a 16 costs 10 points, and an 18 costs 16 points.

25 points is the standard, 28 points is considered tough, and 32 points is considered high-powered.

Another option that I have used in the past is kind of like a point by system. We take say 72 points and spilt those points among the 6 stats, so you can have 12’s in all stats or one or two good ones, one or two bad, then the rest average. If you want more power add more points, less power less points.

That is the system we use. 72 to achieve an average of 12. It is the same number of points as the elite array but allows my players to customize more to their liking without unbalancing things.

Ah! Thanks! I knew I saw it somewhere. Just looked in PH though.

I'm a fan of the Iron Heroes point buy system:

  • Ability scores all start at 10.
  • You get a certain number of points, say, 16 (low-powered), 24 (average), or 30 (very high powered).
  • Raising an ability score as high as 15 costs one point per point.
  • Raising a 15 to a 16, or a 16 to a 17, costs two points.
  • Raising a 17 to an 18 costs four points.
  • You can optionally choose one "weakness", where you drop any one 10 to an 8 and spend the two points elsewhere.

Iron Heroes has no races, but if you use this system you assign points before applying racial bonuses or penalties.
