Sorcerer Familiars?

Rules Questions

I am new to Pathfinder and I'm sure this was covered at some point but - indulge me here. lol!

In the Core rules I can find nothing in the Sorcerer description that suggests they still get a familiar yet in other Pathfinder books it says they do.

ie: The Gazetteer (page 15)
Class Abilities: Sorcerers raised on the Isle of Hermea do not call familiars like others from the mainland. They instead focus their development on harnessing their inner reserve of magic, for use in times of need. This ability replaces the summon familiar ability.

Which is correct - do Sorcerers still get familiars? Or did I miss something in the Core rules?

Thanks!

Some of the books such as the Gazetteer and the Campaign setting were written for the 3.5 rules and not Pathfinder. Many of the items, spells, feats, prestige classes, and etc have been updated or are going to be (hopefully). In answer to your question, the Gazetteer clas ability for the sorcerer is not applicable, but maybe if you ask your DM to houserule something.

So far I have yet to play a Sorcerer in Pathfinder - I'm currently still on my 1st character (a cleric) with PF.

I was just curious after spending some time reading the books.

Thanks for the clarification.

Forgot to point out, anything found in the Paizo store that has (OGL) after the title is for 3.5. Everything for Pathfinder is labeled (PFRPG).

It is also worth noting that Sorcerers with the Arcane bloodline have the option of choosing a familiar.

So it is still available to some.

And the arcane bloodline is the "standard" bloodline. If you have an old sorcerer from 3e times without any indication about his ancestry, you can always go arcane. Same for new characters, really. If you don't want to go into details about his magic's origins, arcane is pretty standard.

This is very good to know.

Slaunyeh and kaeYoss - thank you, I hadn't noticed that in the Arcane bloodline.
