For the purposes of feats like Martial Weapon Proficiency and Weapon Focus are the regular and composite versions considered one weapon or would a person have to take the feat twice for the two for versions?

Yes

Shortbows have the same line.

A composite longbow is just a longbow made out of pieces laminated together (or in the case of the english longbow, its made out of a tree where the differing densities of the heart and outer woods make it naturally composite) Its like making a long sword out of adamantite or iron: weapon focus longsword still works.

Speaking from RW experience, the difference between a short bow and a 'longbow' is more than just the pull strength. I was competant with a competion grade bow, but had to relearn so much technique when we shifted to a weak, 80 lb. 'longbow'. When we upgraded to the 100 lb. bow, I was struggling just to get a decent pull. After a dozen arrows, I couldn't arm wrestle a kitten!

Fortunately, our instructor started us with the see/draw/release method and we didn't have to unlearn the draw/aim/release common to modern pulley and cog bows. Have used both a Turkish composite bow and a Yumi, but enough to really offer any insights.

I use a variation on the Weapon Group system, treating the two longbows as a single exotic weapon. Greatbow counts as another.

Why would you move a longbow from martial to exotic?

Why would someone take exotic weapon prof:longbow if they could take exotic weapon proficiency greatbow?
