So, does align weapon work on a monk's unarmed strike?

Align Weapon says:

PRD wrote:
You can't cast this spell on a natural weapon, such as an unarmed strike.

The monk description says:

PRD wrote:
A monk's unarmed strike is treated as both a manufactured weapon and a natural weapon for the purpose of spells and effects that enhance or improve either manufactured weapons or natural weapons.

So, does it not work because the monk's attack is unarmed? Or does it work because the monk's attack also counts as a manufactured weapon?

Grand Lodge

The Monk might be the class exception to the usual rules of unarmed strike. So the spell would not work for a fighter with the Improved Unarmed Strike feat, but it would pass for the monk.

That's what I'm wondering. The monk is usually an exception to these things -- see strong jaw -- but the way this one is worded gives me pause.

The monk is an exception to the general rule, you can cast weapon enhancements to enhance his unarmed strike.

Sovereign Court

As a General Rule: In determining if his unarmed strikes work with effects that target natural or manufactured weapons only, use whichever is most beneficial to the monk.

That would be my gut reaction, but my GM may not agree. ;)

The GM has the last word, but OilHorse is correct from the rules standpoint.

Monks are made to be buff "sponges" ;)

If he does not agree give him a raspberry and tell him he is being a stinky butt poopy head. That oughta get him on the right track.

I will take that on board, but that tends to be standard operating procedure with our GM. ;)
