Newbie question about setting fluff

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

I just picked up the Pathfinder Core Rulebook in anticipation of a friend running an intro adventure in the next few weeks. I'm 95% sure we'll be playing in Golarion, probably one of the official modules or Adventure Paths.

My question: I'd like to incorporate a little Golarion flair into my character's backstory, but I see the big campaign setting book isn't out till March. Is there a specific product or central website where I could find some basic stuff out in the meantime? Info about the gods, the major civilizations, and some basic geography?

Yes. The Inner Sea Primer.

PS. Welcome to Golarion!

Well THAT was almost too simple! :D

Thanks, man, that looks like precisely what I was thinking of.

Also, the new and improved Campaign Setting book is due out in March.

You might be able to find the 3.5 PF Campaign Setting Book somewhere which is what I've been using for the time being. Also see the PF Chronicles Gazeteer. That's basically a more informative version of the inner sea primer.

If you end up using one of the Adventure Paths, you can also download the free player's guide for that AP as a PDF to help you set up your PC's background. They're tailored to the AP and will have more specialized, spoiler-free information to give you some ideas.

Well, everyone else got all the good ones so I'll just say "Welcome to the Boards!"

Even if you do not end up using Adventure Paths, those free player's guides are great lil' reads. Quick intros to different parts of Golarion. Ideas on the society, classes, races, important figures, traits, and local slang are included in most of those player's guides. Truthfully, the player's guides being a free download, inspired my group to begin purchasing Golarion specific stuff. One of our players took the dive to become an AP subscriber, and most of us own a golarion book of one kind or another. (gods&magic, Elves of..., Orcs of..., Campaign Setting)
