Ooofda. Something Positive takes a hard turn today. Randy at least puts a warning on the top.

I was thinking that was going to be coming soon after the belated Halloween strip. Didn't expect it to be the very next strip.

Randy does tend to go towards the heavier/darker story lines at the end of the year.

EDIT: Not this time. I know it's about fictional characters in a comic strip, but just trust me.

Eddie Van Halen is a new one!

I've been told I look like Jesus, Eddie Vedder, the singer of Fishbone (Fisher something), Chris Cornell, Zack De La Rocha, Weird Al, Brad Pitt, Antonio Banderas, and "This guy I know" (everyone knows someone else who they swear looks exactly like me)

The two that I used to get all the time were Andie McDowell (and I can't stand her) and Minnie Driver. And once, creepily, Chandra Levy, about a month into her disappearance.

Lately I just get Mother Gothel from Tangled.

In the mid-90's, when my hair was roughly Cap's length (center of my back), I would get a lot of James Hetfield comparisons.

Now...I just need to cut off my head and borrow someone else's I guess.

Twas a bit of a gut punch. And agree. No nudity for that post.

My co-workers are on TEAMS right now, trying to have a political debate while trying REALLY hard not to name anyone or actually have a political debate. It's like they're fighting each other with marshmallows. I'm not contributing b/c even though it's just us low-level teammate drones, who KNOWS who's listening from corporate...

As someone who looks like cliche Jesus, this is one of the worst days to be me, because it doesn't matter what happened yesterday or who they voted for, everyone is going to want to talk about it.

And who are they going to talk about it at, the quiet guy that looks like Jesus.

Unfortunately for them I'm in no mood for listening so I'm bringing in my obnoxiously obvious headphones and I'm not taking them off the entire day, if anyone still tries talking to me I'll cut them off and tell them to talk to my supervisor about that (I have no supervisor).

Maybe Jesus is your supervisor.

At various times, I have been told that I resemble:

1) Serge Tankarian, from Cistern Of A Clown;
2) Tuli Kufterberg, of The Fugs;
3) Tip-top UK Indie popster Jarvis Cocker.

All of which proves that people who make such comparisons don't look very closely before doing so.

The most recent comparison I got was... you guys ever see that old Mel Brooks movie, Spaceballs? Pizza the Hutt?

Scarab Sages

A few ubernerds have been making 'spaceballs, the facemask' facemasks because... well...

I want one!

A female friend of mine made a digital print of her own face and uses that as her mask. That's fun.

I just use a generic hospital version b/c outside shopping necessities or being at one friend's house I haven't gone out of the house since May. That is not an exaggeration.

I have a SpongeBob SquarePants mask and then an assortment of different colored cloth masks from Target.

When I was young and thin and had a mohawk and an oversized army surplus jacket, people frequently compared me to Robert DeNiro in Taxi Driver.

Other than that, I've apparently utterly failed in my endeavors to resemble any person of note.

You looked kinda hot as that guy from Sabaton.

Then you shaved and put the fish pants back on.

I used to have a pair of fish pants. They were chefs' wear from my brother, reminded me of a pair of Zubaz.

Never heard of her before now.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

She is one of the flagship female led bands in the hard rock genre (Octane on SiriusXM).

Others I put in the same group
Taylor Momsen of The Pretty Reckless
Maria Brink of In This Moment
Dorothy (a bit more bluesy, but still solid)
Amy Lee of Evanescence
Ash Costello of New Years Day
Christina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil (a bit more gothic metal, but still solid)
Lacey Sturm formerly of Flyleaf

On the Power Metal side
Tarja
Within Temptation
Nightwish
Battle Beast

I appreciate strong female vocals. I also find that with the exception of New Years Day, most of these bands actually know how to handle the sound board to balance the vocals with the guitars/drums. It has been a pet peeve of mine for some time when the sound board balances the live performance to drown out the vocals. In some cases that may be to cover a weak live vocalist, but I do not believe that to be the case for any of these (well maybe New Years Day).

I appreciate strong female vocals too Nyarlybones! I'm pretty sure though that's where the similarities of our lists end:

Bjork
Jannis Joplin
Amy Winehouse
Suzanne Vega
Madonna (I'm a child of the 80's)
Christina Aguilera
Bette Midler
Ella Fitzgerald
Billie Holiday
Aretha Franklin
Pink
Dessa
Adelle

There's probably a lot more I'm forgetting. I'm realizing that for one, I'm old, and for another I have a weird obsession with pop music. Like, I guess I always knew I was into it but I never thought about how MUCH I'm into it.

You forgot Arch Enemy.

While I really dislike growling in any music genre, Alissa White-Gluz's vocal talents are astonishing, and she can carry any band with both beautiful female vocals and a death growl that's the envy of many a male singer.

Ok... Who is going to tell Nobody's that November has just started?

<.<

Oh, crap.

I have just volunteered myself, haven't I?

I am tempted to go to sleep already and sleep until tomorrow evening.

The weather is rainy and sleepy anyway.

It's a bit early, but, whatever.

Zzzzzzzz...

And wooow, Microsoft.

I was trying to demonstrate the difference between a live link, a plain text link, and a replaced text link in an email. Paizo makes it easy:
https://paizo.com is a live link.
https://paizo.com is a plain text link.
Paizo is a replaced text link.

So I formatted it correctly in Outlook, even explicitly telling Outlook to remove the link from the plain text link, I hit Send...
...and Outlook assumed I must have made a mistake and re-linked the plain text.

Y'know, Microsoft, if I went to all the trouble to explicitly say, "Please remove this link," then maybe, just maybe, I didn't want it linked!!!!!

Grrrr...

Well yes, if I leave the hard rock (or maybe the modern hard rock) genre, I can add

Amee Mann/Til Tuesday
Stevie Nicks
The Wilson sisters/Heart
Garbage
Lita Ford
Joan Jett
Renee Fleming
Christine Goerke
Katarina Dalayman
Cindy Lauper
Annie Lennox
Cranberries (RIP)
Dolly
Reba

I find most of the pop singers to have too much autotune these days to be considered strong female vocalists, but I do like
Rhianna
Brittney
Lady Gaga

Kind of indifferent to Madonna. Certainly listened to plenty growing up, but never really did much for me. Katy Perry falls in the same meh category. Some good stuff and a lot more stinkers.

Yes. And if she has a Peleton...

Yeah, between Brittney and Christina, I always leaned more Christina. It feels like she's got the better vocals, Brittney just had better marketing. Personal preference tho.

Concur Christina A. probably had a better natural voice, but her song writers were not as catchy for me.

Can't say that I have seen anything with Christina Hendricks in it. Was not aware she was an entity before these posts

...no Mad Men?

Wait, how can you say, "I'll be in my bunk" and not know Christina Hendricks?! Our Mrs. Reynolds? i.e. Yo-Saf-Brig?

Firefly is not listed in my casual reading of her wikipedia. But if same actress ok. But no on mad men.

I'm a big fan of L7, Sleater-Kinney, The Distillers, The Regrettes, The Interrupters, early Bikini Kill, 7 Year B@&@&, Liz Phair, Tori Amos, PJ Harvey, Adele, Garbage, Screaming Females, etc.

So, you like alto singers.

Or Firefly?

Apparently.

Blergh. I cooked myself a package of what was supposed to be some kind of Italian dumpling but they were inedible hot. I hate throwing away food but after half a plate I was chocking and coughing. The other half of plate will end in trash. I might be cheap but I am no masochist.

The birria I made is pretty damn good. Never had it before, so don't know if it tastes how it's supposed to, but it is tasty. I just wish it was a bit spicier. Next time I'll have to use more peppers.
