LOL. Contrary to CY, that looks very much like what I serve the family on Monday nights, and they love it.

Except I use brown rice instead of brown bread, and I don't overcook the peas to death.

Brown bread kind of eh. (It varies; some is great. Some is terrible. Most is eh.)

Ale nnnnnnnnnnnope.

Salmon sounds fantastic.

Sorrel sounds nice.

Peas sounds lovely. Mushy or not. Herbs or otherwise.

Bacon sounds... pretty okay (not what they ate in the video, but mentioned as a staple).

Oh, huuuuuuuuuuuungry. DINNER TIME

(Consists of green beans, baked beans, and mac'n'cheese, all left overs reheated in the microwave, and all from Publix; modern life marvels notice the lack of judgement of quality - I dunno, it's my life.)

Are you trying to gauge whether or not NH will notice when another new son - this time a red dragon - starts living in his house next to the dancing drow?

I hate salmon, I hate peas even more than salmon, I hate rye bread, I like bacon though, but only in small doses.

Also, ale is a hard no for me.

OK. I am *so* ecstatic that I saw my post on liking the food and serving that kind of food every Monday, then TL's post that he was praying for us.

NobodysHome wrote:

So there was a really interesting article in my GetPocket this morning, but it vanished so I can't linky it.

But the summary was, "People who stay within their budget are happier than those who splurge." No surprise there.

But her example was, "I've set aside $400 for a new TV. I go to the store and look at the TVs. I can get a 40" TV for $400, or a 45" TV for $500. Research shows that the people who stay within their budgets and buy a 40" TV are happier and more satisfied with their purchase."

Except... that's not how we shop at all, and never has been, so I don't even understand it.

If we decide we need a big-ticket item such as a TV, fridge, piece of furniture, or whatnot, it goes:

(1) GothBard does extensive research on what's available: What brands are best? What size would best fit us? Would older tech or newer tech be better? After a couple of weeks of research, she says, "We need this specific item," or may give me a list of 2-3 items. Even when I was a teenager I remember poring through my parents' stack of Consumer Reports to determine what I should be buying before I even left the house for the store.

(2) We go to various stores and etailers to get an idea as to the price. We narrow the list down to a single item based on price.

(3) At that point, we decide whether or not it's within our budget, and, if it isn't, we start saving up for it.

Heck, we do that with TVs, computers, fridges, and even cars.

So this whole idea of going to a store with a dollar amount in mind instead of a specific item? It's totally alien to me. Without doing research beforehand, how do you know you're not buying an absolute piece of junk?

Ah, well, patience is a virtue and all that. I was just wondering whether anyone honestly decides, "I need a big-ticket item," and then just wanders into the store and buys one without doing any preliminary research...

EDIT: And before LM jumps all over me, I know darned well that if you're on a limited budget then...

Not even vaguely. That's how we shop *when we can*, even for second-hand big ticket things, like when we bought the Civic before Hermione was born. And WW researched pretty heavily before we bought the Soul last year. It came down to two cars for which we could qualify for a loan, and we ended up with that one even though our payment would be higher because its long-term reliability/ maintenance/ etc. ratings were higher than the other one. And WW's Lyft money covers most of the payment and the insurance on it.

He's mostly ok. Mom is afraid he might get a flue or something like that in the hospital. For now, they are recording his heart rate and other related readings. He was supposed to get angiography but it was delayed (or mom misunderstood when it is supposed to happen).

Of course by now he is probably mostly annoyed - as he is likely cut off the cigarettes in the hospital...

I thought the food in the video looked pretty good. (Not a fan of peas, especially mushy food, but I eat them)

Now its making ME hungry! ;P

Argh, my wife caught a cold from her kids at school, and is getting over it pretty quickly. (Thank goodness!)

Turns out she shared it with me. I usually fight these things off pretty quickly, but not this time. :(

So its Saturday morning, and Im sitting at work babysitting Preview Day (Hey kids! Come give OUR university your money!) and a youth musical-piano-playing-(judged for a rating) event, waiting for them both to end so I can get to the matinee and evening performances of the rental musical in the building (A production of High School Musical, performed by High School Students) ;P

Meanwhile I feel like being anywhere else, but preferably in bed with the covers up over my head. :P

I just hope I feel better by tomorrow. So after the load out I can go home and watch the superbowl COMMERCIALS (Which will be LAME as they are so expensive no one interesting is doing any of them) and eat hot wings!
:)

Yeah, have a good weekend! ;)

What DO you like?

Hell, what do all of you guys eat?

Chicken and rice mostly. I can do beef in limited amounts. I’m quite happy with fish as well. I avoid pork as much as possible.

I like bread and fish.

I do not like salmon or rye bread.

Peas are one of the few vegetables I can not eat under any circumstance.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I like peas. I like fish. Salmon is not the highest on my fish list, as I prefer cod and similar fishes, though I won't say no to the former.

Breads tend to give me a heartburn, dark breads slightly more than white ones. I am not sure how the traditional heavy and thick bread would make my guts behave, would it intensify or decrease the unpleasantness afterwards.

Never liked peas. I can do them, but I don’t like them. Same with green beans. Carrots and broccoli are my go to veggies.

Fresh broccoli and spinach are my favorite veggies, though I can usually eat most, but never peas.

Though they aren't as bad as jello.

Sorrel tea is a Caribbean staple (as are sorrel soft drinks, if memory serves).

Green beans and black olives are the only veggie I can eat without some kind of topping, and even then green beans are better with some or as part of a casserole.

I can handle peas, broccoli, and spinach if they have some kind of topping or, in the case of spinach, as a salad.

Carrots I don't like at all. Ditto cauliflower.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Well I'm still trying to stick to my Keto diet,
So mostly meat and veggies in various ways.
Although I have to be careful, as even many veggies have the dreaded CARBS.

So basically no bread, rice or potatoes. I substitute riced cauliflower, and mashed cauliflower for a lot of it, (as you cant really tell with sauce or gravy on it anyway) :)

I LUV meat, all kinds, I cook a lot of burgers and stuff on grill, Instant pot roasts (beef and pork, Pull pork BBQ is yum) and we likes fishies, all kinds.
I eat the vegetables because I have to have something to fill me up thats 'healthy'. ;P

I can eat green beans and peas, but would rather something else.

I cant STAND cooked spinach (unless its in a cheesy spinach dip!) but I like it fine in salads.

My motto is:
Salad is NOT food.
Salad is what food EATS.
:)

Ugh. Hang in there, Drejk!

And yep, we have confirmation: Global Megacorp just rolled out the Windows 10 1903 patch, and on my machine it failed mid-patch because...
...you guessed it...
...it enabled my wireless adapter and then crapped out when it couldn't connect to wireless.

Since this was Global Megacorporation's installed, can't blame Microsoft for this one.

What part of "I do not use wireless because my house is a massive Faraday cage" do you not understand, Global Megacorporation?

In other news, all my tax paperwork is all packed up and ready to be dropped off with my accountant. After watching multiple videos from multiple sources about how OTHER countries handle taxation in a rational manner ("Here's what we think your taxes are. Look over this and let us know whether you disagree."), having to spend several hours getting together my paperwork just so I can pay my accountant $800 to figure the mess out for me is...
...infuriating.

On the bright side, with the solar installation this year, I'm just as happy to hand my taxes over to an accountant so he can squeeze every last tax break out of it for me.

Why would you refuse okra or eel?!

(I actually am just not familiar with liver; when I was a kid I hated it, but it was "trendy" I may have been the only one that felt this way to hate "Daddy foods" - it was one of those "gross" foods my Dad ate - so I don't actually know how I feel about it.)

(Eel, for the record, is kind of okay. It's not great, but it's not bad. It's a solid "fifth place" kind of thing - at least when it's in sushi.)

(Okra is FANTASTIC, and is one of the few vegetables my children will actively compete with each other to devour more of; though this is - sort of - the south, so all of our okra is fried. May bias us. A lot.)

I take it back. Impus Major's generic Windows 10 machine updated as well, and turned on its wireless adapter. How did I know? His games suddenly started suffering horrific lag or dropping entirely because as usual it was ignoring the hardwired connection in favor of wireless.
