It sure is windy out there.
Just remember what ol' Jack Burton does when the earth quakes, and the poison arrows fall from the sky, and the pillars of Heaven shake. Yeah, Jack Burton just looks that big ol' storm right square in the eye and he says, "Give me your best shot, pal. I can take it."

Soooo.....What you're saying is you're a creepy cat lady? The kind who'll eventually be found eaten by her pets?

FIFY. Yes. That about sums it up. Those evil, evil, evil creatures. They play all nice and are acting so loving. But when my guard is down, I will be cat food. ~paranoid look~ I must get ready!

Yay! One of the very few watcheable reality shows in existence has started a new season: A bunch of Swedish-Americans compete to meet their Swedish relatives by doing various silly tasks in different parts of Sweden.
Sadly there doesn't seem to be any bear-like Minnesotan truck drivers in it this year.

Stay on, you damn lights!!!
I know from FB that our own Patrick Curtin has already lost power, as has another friend of mine on Long Island.
And this is just the storm's leading edge...

the western end of Long Island and all of Staten look to be in for some significant storm surge also.

Wow. I was totally expecting some Scorpions there. System shock.

Well, I have more water in my basement, but a lot less than I thought I'd have. And the rain looks to be slacking off between now and tomorrow. So, huzzah for that.
Still, the wind is picking up big time. And I realized I forgot to tie down my garbage cans but oh well.
Daycare is closed tomorrow. So the wife and I are probably both gonna stay home again - her to watch the boy, and me to clean up he basement.

Then you have something fancy and new that only cost $7.I check out my amazon.com wish list and update my paperback collection. I'm almost done with Sword and Sorceress, I need to finish off Shadowrun next. In between, I collect manga that everyone seems to have forgotten about but me- currently Cannon God Exaxxion. I am truly incensed that Dark Horse has left the last two volumes in Japan.
I believe there are 6 or 7. I'm surprised you found it dark, I found it pragmatic/astonishingly realistic, especially with regard to physics. Then again, I LOVED Yoshiyuki Tomino's Zambot 3, which really, really drove the point of "Never fight with giant robots in a populated area" home.

Here's hoping PC is OK.

Hi all! Doing fine here.
The power is still on, but for a time it was flickering a lot, so I thought it best to power down the computer. Everyone else I've been in touch with on Long Island though is in the dark.
Two huge trees have come down outside my apartment. One of them landed within 6 inches of somebody's car. I'm sure it scratched the paint, but in a moment like that, they'll have to just appreciate that if it had been a foot to the right, they would have had a tree trunk in their windshield.
It seems the rain has past, but the high winds will still be here through the night.
