If you want stereotypes about German tourists, as someone who has traveled abroad, the common advice is to follow the Germans, because whatever they are going to see will be more interesting than what you had planned. Well researched indeed.

Yea. Yesterday Karen found out that one of her friends was diagnosed with a brain tumor. After hearing that, her friend went for a walk out in the desert and has not been heard from in a few days. They are searching for her.They found Karen's friend dead in the desert. She had a siezure and had fallen and hit her head on a rock. Karen is pretty upset right now. Lucky for me, her best friend is going to pick her up and spend the day with her.
So sad. Condolences.
I hope that the person in that car is ok, CH. How is the hubby doing?That person is not okay from what I understand. Killed instantly from what I have heard. The train is partially on top of their car. I hope FAWTLies are careful and stop when the rr crossing arms are down. You cannot beat a train.
As for hubby, we are going through some tough stuff right now. I am foreseeing a single life for the first time in ten years.
Ugh. Sympathies.

I'm done with my portion of the college visit. My son will be registering for his classes this afternoon.
I understand that schools want to show how excited they are that the students are there, and they're trying to instill school spirit, but it seems like they go overboard with goofy skits and cheerleading mixed into an informational program.

I have a banana, but no bacon. I hope the banana is good. Those buses were poorly ventilated, and on the way here it went from perfectly ripe to being on the verge of banana bread material.
I failed a will save and went poking through some of the politics threads I'd hidden.
I'm noticing a distinct lack of welling rage from reading the posts contrary to how I would have responded a year or two ago. I can only blame this on my rather-recent choice to give up any and all pretense of actually caring. Yay apathy!

*gags* Seriously. Wouldn't you rather sit down with a professor for 30 minutes and talk about the course of study than endure a 30 minute pep rally? It always struck me of signifying misaligned priorities.

My daughter was more impressed by the 'personality' of College A. 'I would fit better there' was her POV. So what if College B has better credentials...
I love making and eating banana bread. My grandmother had a bunch of baked good recipes from Scotland that are awesome, as long as you can deal with pints and pecks. ;) The banana bread and pound cake are superb.
Good luck with that Taig. Hope it turns out well for him. I'm admittedly biased against colleges in general, but more so against the ones that employ those kinds of tactics than those that just give you the straight-up facts, which is why I tend to be more in favor of technical schools and local community colleges over universities.

Well, that stuff can be important too, to a point. At the University of Rochester, there was a running joke that it was full of students that did not get into their first choice Ive League institution. There was some truth to that, based on most of my friends in school, but I was an exception. (Kind of.) While it's true I didn't get into my first choice (Brown) I did get accepted at Cornell. While the U of R is a fantastic school and top tier research university, on paper Cornell seems like the better choice, but to me it had too much of a pressure-cooker atmosphere (and one of the highest collegiate suicide rates in the country as a result). I said "no thank you" and went somewhere that people seemed more concerned about learning than grades and awards.

I know the area well. There are no highways there for at least an hour in any direction. It gives new meaning to isolated.

My brother-in-law is a pastry chef. He's always trying out new recipes on her (like pecan turtle brownies, stuff like that). She can't possibly keep up, so she takes everything to work with her. She's the most popular nurse at Mayo.
