If you attack this barbarian with a Lance at 10' reach, do you still get damaged by his barbs?

RAW says yes. Probably an oversight, though. As a DM, I wouldn't argue with a player who claimed it did work, but if the player ASKED, I'd probably try to convince him of an alternative.

most likely a reach weapon will bypass it, the ability seems modeled after a barbed devil's ability
