This is my first time playing any RPG, and I'm a little confused as to the specifics of character creation. I have the Core Rulebook, but it's a little...daunting, and I'm having trouble finding the answers.
When you create a character, how many feats do you get? I'm trying to create a Monk, and I see on the 3.10 table on page 58 that I get a "bonus feat" every few levels. Are these the only feats I get, or do I get a normal feat every level?
Any other tips/advice you guys could think of would be really helpful, I've got my first night of Pathfinder Society Play this Wednesday. Thank you for your help, and happy adventuring!

First of all, i see that you're a new poster... welcome aboard!
Character creation can be very daunting the first few times around, but you'll figure it out if you enjoy the game. :)
As to your specific question, the feats gained every odd level are standard. Those are what every pc of any class/race gets simply for attaining that level.
Depending on your race and class, you could get more than just the 1 at level, 1, though.
for example, all humans get one additional feat simply for being a human. So if you chose to be a human monk, you're already up to 2 feats at creation.
Quick note about monks, they can be a difficult class to create. There are many, many people would would suggest you play something "more straight-forward" (like a fighter) for your first character. While I'm not going to go that far, it would be nice to know what kind of monk you would like to play. Do you have inspiration of some sort or have something specific in mind?

Every character gets one feat at first level and an additional feat every odd level after that (3,5,7, etc.) Humans get a bonus feat at 1st level which can be any feat they qualify for. Half-elves get skill focus as a bonus feat at first level. Certain classes also give you bonus feats at various levels which are in addition to your normal feat progression. So a 1st level human monk should have four feats. One bonus human feat, one feat for being a first level character, improved unarmed strike (bonus monk feat), and another bonus monk feat from the list of bonus monk feats in the monk's class description. I highly recommend reading the first three chapters of the book very carefully. Also some character generation programs like hero lab make character generation quicker and easier.

Make that 5:
First-level monks are loaded with feats.

Try this it really walks you through everything. http://www.d20pfsrd.com/basics-ability-scores/character-creation Personally I would Photocopy (or print the PDF available on site for your character sheet and create it by hand you learn the most this way. Alternatively you could try http://www.dinglesgames.com/tools/NPCGenerator/dnd35/ and use the generator. it works very well. If you are going to a game with a pre-generated character then i guess that you are using a point buy method to determine your base stats (srt dex ectera). I suggest playing a Human Monk. Being human you get your monk feat, A feat for 1st level, and a feat for being human. Also choose two character traits (these add flavour and two of these are almost like an extra feat. Put your highest ability score into Wiz and a Monk this increases your AC, your second highest should be in Str and third is a toss up for me between dex and con. the rest are dumps (meaning they can be lower. Maybe take Toughness, Diehard or Dodge.... hmm Ive mever taken a monk as a PC so look on the message boards for optimizing a monk you will find lots.
Have fun and don't worry if you show up and The DM sees something funny they will just change it so no stress.

Oh I just noticed your playing a society game that means you Are doing a Point Buy system (20 points i think) This is good keeps balance and makes math easy. Your going to have a blast it's fun just relax. If you have worries though just use dingle games and it will pump out your char for you.
Cheers.

I'm thinking I'd like to play a Dwarven Monk. My inspiration was a sort of lone brawler, taciturn and quiet, yet totally willing to beat the tar out of someone who asks for it. Ideally I'd go for a Drunken Boxing-ish Prestige class (although I don't see it in the APG...well, maybe in the future). I was reading the description for the Monk class when I saw the mention of a Monk being, among other possibilities, a "self taught brawler".

First of all, WELCOME!
Fatouzocat suggested you add your racial +2 to Wisdom. This is only a good idea if you want to focus on your stunning fist and quivering palm techniques.
Based on your description of your dwarf monk, I would highly recommend you read Treantmonk's guide to monks. If you google it, you'll find it.
He suggestes you add that +2 to STR. I agree as I too play a dwarf monk. It will add 2 to your hit chance as well as your damage. This is SO important as monks do not get full Base Attack Bonus (BAB) so you'll need help to hit.
Also, +1 to Eben TheQuiet. Monk's suffer from a need to have moderate to good scores in several areas: STR, DEX, CON, & WIS. This being the case, you would probably have an easier time with a different class on your first try.
Now when you read this and any other advice, remember that it is you and not we who will have to play this character. That said, do what you want. This game has lots of room for trial and error.
The two absolutes -
1. Don't piss off your DM 8)
2. Have fun. It is a game after all.

Just wanted to point out especially with the OP being green and all, this statement is incorrect. The +2 to Strength, improves your hit chance (melee only) and damage (melee, thrown weapons and composite bows only) by +1. The +2 is added to the attribute, improving the modifier by +1.

GoldenOpal,
Thank you very much for catching that. I was at work and writing between customers. The +2 goes to the attribute increasing the modifier by +1.
That notwithstanding, you are still better off going for the increase to strength.
Again, my two coppers.

Sort of if I remember properly monks cannot wear armour thus the wisdom helps them on this end as well since they get Ac from wiz??? pretty sure. I totally understand the Str thing though and would absolutely defer to anyone with more monk experience. It's balance to hit or to be hit?? at low levels the higher AC is nice higher up well things are going to hit you...lots.

Advanced Players Guide
Monk : Drunken Master ( It's now a Alternate class feature. )
Monk : AC : you need to focus on Dex and Wis.
Short and fast :
Dex Initiative, AC, Ref Save, To Hit ( Having a low Str. You will want to take weapon finesses )
Wis AC, Will Save, Stunning Fist DC. ( Geting a save DC. 10 + 1/2 your level + Wis Mod. = Save DC ) ( This is a wast of ability points. For little gane. IMO )
Monk : Damage : You need to focus on Str and Con.
Str incresses your damage, to hit
Con incresses your HP, fort save
Monk : hybrid of thes is not a good idea. ( unless your using some crazy point buy, or rolling crazy numbers. ) IE: If you defend every where you defend no where. You end up spreading your self to thin and can't do eather well enough to make up for it. IMO.
I personly recomend a difrent class. There are meny more ways. To make a bad monk then any other class. Just my experience with the class.
