You want a knight that does a bit of all but be naive?
Well for starters this are your abilities and some specialties (not all):
Agility (2) (Quickness, Dodge, Acrobatics)
Animal Handling (2) (Drive, Train, Charm, Ride)
Athletics (2) (Run, Jump, Climb, Swim, Strength, Throw)
Awareness (2) (Empahty, Notice)
Cunning (2) (Logic, memory)
Deception (2) (Bluff)
Endurance (2) (Stamina, Resilience)
Fighting (2) (Weapon Types)
Healing (2) (Treat Ailment, Treat injury, Diagnose)
Language (2) Common Tongue (explained later)
Knowledge (2) (Educations, Particular subject)
Marksmanship (2) (Bows, Crossbow, Throw)
Persuasion (2) (Charm, Convince, Intimidate, Taunt)
Status (2) (Breeding, Tournament, Reputation)
Stealth (2) (Sneak, Blend In)
Survival (2) (Track, Orientation, Hunt)
Thievery (2) (Pick locks)
Warfare (2) (Command, Strategy, Tactics)
Will (2) (Coordinate, Courage)
Regardless of what you want to do for your character concept, your abilities are always set to 2.
Now depending on age you get a certain amount of Experience to upgrade your abilities:
Young Adult 180exp + 40exp for specialties
Destiny Points 5
Drawbacks 0 (you can still take one if you want)
Adult 120exp + 80 exp for specialties
Destiny Points 4
1 Drawback
Im not at home but IF I remember correctly those are the numbers.
Now upgrading abilities has a system of course.
Example
Regnier has Athletics 2 and he wants to upgrade it to 3 so he expends 10exp points. Now he wants to be very strong so he will get a bonus when ever he is required to take Strength check so he spends 10 exp from his specialties in Athletics. Athletics 3 (Strength 1B)
Regnier has Fighting 3 already but he feels he needs to be more accurate or better at landing blows so he raises it to 4 costing him 30 exp.
Now how the system works just so you get a better idea of how things go.
Your Combat Defense is the total of Agility+Athletics+Awareness+Shield or weapon bonus - Armor penalty.
Example:
Regnier wants to calculate his CD (Combat Defense)
He has Agility 3+Awareness 3+Athletics 4+ Shield 2 - Chain Mail 3 = 9
Here you must wonder what's the deal of having armor if I end up with less CD, well armor SOAK damage Chain mail has an Armor Rating of 5 (AR), mean that will subtract 5 dmg every time someone hits you.
Intrigue Defense works the same as CD but this is for social encounters.
ID = Awareness+Cunning+Status
Your Health is Endurancex3 (yeah how much life you have)
Composure (self explained) Willx3 This is your social HP

Are you VERY SURE you want Nemesis?
I think I only allowed for 1 skill to be set to lvl 1 for the exp bonus other than that seems fine.
And you start with Common Tongue at 2 (you can speak it well but not read or write) also, unless you wish to purchase 2 ranks in language of the Old tongue
We need to work out that Haunted/nemesis thing also with a small background, that I require from all characters.
Evil grin...
| Vistarius |
You're right. I forgot you said that (lowered it before you said anything) so I'll have to fix it.
Hell yes I want nemesis. The backstory i have for it is very cool, along with the haunted. They go well together. Haunted is nice, sure I go slower, but I attack a bit better in the first round, as a duelist and tournament fighter that goes quiet well.
I need a bit of time to get the backstory up.

still here. Finally had a night to set down and spend some time on the boards, and I couldn't get on the boards till about 10 minutes ago. Sigh. I'll try to get on tomorrow.
I'd like to play a Master of the Hounds, or Horses for the House. And I know you said nothing past adult, but if possible I'd like him to be a bit older. Not feeble, just a few creaks and groans.

Well er... that is not a very viable player character but it is possible. Master of Horses could be nice you would be a very good rider, Kennerlmaster (hounds) is also good, I find it more viable for you to be a Master-of-the-Hunt maybe?
Often the Master of the Hounds, and the Master of the Hunt were one and the same. Does that work?

Qualities are things that make you better at something, or that gives you bonuses while doing something usually.
Axe Fighter I,II,III (adds certain abilities to your attacks with axes)
Wealthy (more gold)
And Drawbacks are flaws.
Bound tot he bottle: Ya drink when in moments of stress or difficulties for example.
Bastards: You get penalties to deal with people of higher status.
Are you really sure you want to be a master-of-Horse/kennelmaster? there are better positions and yer basically castle bound.

That's why I wanted to start at Middle Age. I saw him as the "retired" master of the Hunt/Kennel-master, who now kind of does what he wants to do. He has worked with the members of the family, and is trusted, but doesn't really have any duties he must perform. As an older retired man he poses no threat, and his wisdom and skills in the wilds, and with animals (And people) should be of great help. I also imagined him an ace with the bow, as former master of the hunt, and possibly with a hound animal companion, that is a step above ordinary. If you don't think this works out with the game you plan to run...maybe you could point me in a more functional direction...
Let me know...as I plan on making the character tonight...

No problem Chris.
Well Scranford it's hard, let's just put it this way, you are a commoner (common birth) and you work for a noble lord as a Master of (insert title), you probably wouldn't like to retire since you have a great job for you and possibly your family, that usually inherit your job over time. It's like if you had a great government position, were you have a good salary and can live from it for ever for doing something you like, do you think you would retire? Think medieval time, not so modern were you can "save money" and retire lol it's not like that in those times and setting.
Now I would understand a hired sword that is extremely good at hunting and archery that used to be a bowman or even part of the hunting retinue of the household but you are in search of something more within the house and you seek sponsorship or something of the sort. that way you have all ya need to be part of a lords retinue for traveling and fighting since yer a hired sword for the noble house in search for something more stable with the feature lordling (player). Just my two cents on how it might work out for what you want to do.
I don't know if I made sense but I tried at least.

I guess that depends on why he retired. He is older, and perhaps hearing is bad, or he can't see close up anymore. Or maybe he developed a drinking problem, of has a limp that slows him down. Still loved and trusted, but no longer able to keep up with the demands of the job. Kept around for his knowledge and skill, while his son performs the duties of Hunt/Hound master. If he was a trusted friend of the Master of the house, he might want him around the lordling to keep/bail him out of situations he finds himself in due to his lack of experience.

Ok! Sound good enough to let you be that type of character =) yer still stuck with the adult age, just make him be 28-30 is close to the maximum age of adult. That I will not change my mind about.
No problem. I'll probably just drop out of the game. I can't really do the concept I want to, and I can tell you really don't like the concept, so I'll just bow out. Good luck on the game.

I never normally do this!

That's a terrific assist! (I've played the game in a few demos, so I'm familiar with the basic mechanics, but I've been awash trying to understand the char gen system.)

For Radavel
There are Other Houses with daughters:
House Larkwood
House Oxon
House Weller (suggested)
House Lassen
House Crois
Houses with heirs (male):
House Larkwood
House Lassen
House Weller
House Avelle
House Cogman
House Varde
My suggestion would be House Weller and the conspirators could be from House Cogman.
Dorne:
The Dornish, are considered a passionate and fiery people, with more relaxed views on sexual morality then other parts of the Seven Kingdoms. Dorne joined the Seven Kingdoms through peaceful alliance and a marriage contract, and as such its people are allowed more indulgences than the other regions conquered by the Targaryens in war. In particular, the rulers of Dorne are allowed to style themselves 'Prince' rather than 'Lord' and inheritance always passes to the eldest child regardless of gender, in contrast to the male-favoring primogeniture practiced elsewhere in Westeros.
The Reach have always been enemies of Dorne and even now that the 7 kingdoms are unified they still don't like each other much because of their history.
