I just watched the first episode of David the Gnome on youtube. Anybody else think it was a little weird that a naked bathing gnome would invite people in to his bathroom to watch him bath? And what is up with stripping down to the long-johns to do surgery? Maybe it is the difference between Spain and the U.S., it just struck me as kind of weird.

Because the series was based on this book, which depicts the gnome as Scandinavian/European (i.e. much more relaxed with nudity than Americans).
Also, performing surgery on an animal 100x bigger than yourself is going to be messy business, and ms. gnome gets tired of washing mr. gnome bloodstained clothes over and over again; so they strip (actually they are depicted as naked in the book when performing surgery).
But never mind Tolkien and the World of David the Gnome, wasn't "tuning to stone when exposed to sunlight" a trait of the Scandinavian trolls from mythology, or was it one of those Romantic Victorian additions to fairy-lore?
