Cavalier Summoner

Rules Questions

Dark Archive

Howdy! I am creating a new character for a few weeks of intense gaming to come up, so as to make it so my characters don't get too high level. My question is, however, is this. The Cavalier get's to choose his mount. A summoner can make their Eidolon ridable with an evolution.

I understand there has to be a size difference. And that the evolution, as in the APG, says it has to be a Quadraped or a Serpentine base form. Is it possible for my little Halfling to say, when he reaches second level and gains his first level in Cavalier, that his Eidolon is his bonded mount?

I don't see anything in the rules that says he can't. They are different class features, yes. But the choice it gives would make me think that the eidolon could be both of the features, if the character so chooses.

The Eidolon being an outsider is not on the elligible list for Cavalier/Paladin mounts or Ranger/Druid Animal Companions. Even if you make it look like a horse, it's not a horse. So by RAW it's a no go.

The mount is an animal companion, which the Eidolon is not. They do not stack. It is an outsider and can not be made into an animal companion.

Drat. Wolf it is then?

For the caviler? By RAW you can have : camel or a horse or a pony or wolf, and if at lest 4th level a boar or a dog.

None of which will ever stack with summoner.

You would however still have both class features. This would allow you to have a Edilion and say a wolf. Both would be a little weak due to the lower levels from multiclassing. But it would allow you more options on what one you choose to ride. Also the Edilion would be able to be summoned inside some places that the wolf could have a hard time getting to.

And in the best case you could still have a pet to ride and one left over to attack on its own as well.
