Why is TWF a prereq for Shield Slam? It don't see why a big burly, not so nimble brawler couldn't slam his shield into someone and knock him over.
I suppose for the coordination needed to work your off hand as well as your main?
A burley fighter COULD do that using bullrush. He just gets knocked in the head when he tries it

I think the assumption is that you´re doing Shield Slam as part of 2WF...
But even Paizo´s James Jacobs has clarified that you don´t NEED to make Shield Slam´s as off-hand attacks, but can make them as normal attacks (though that STILL hasn´t made it to FAQ/Errata). I saw mention that Paizo was considering removing 2WF from the Pre-Req for Shield Fighter Variants (since their schtick is they don´t need 2WF to mix shield+sword attacks during Full Attacks, e.g. using different iteratives), but really I agree with you that 2WF should just be Errata-removed from the Shield Slam pre-reqs PERIOD.

If the fighter wanted to TWF and use a shield as his off-hand weapon, I can see the need for it, but I can't fathom why a fighter couldn't use a Shield Slam instead of a regular attack.

I just reread the bullrush maneuver.
You can move with the target if you wish but you must have the available movement to do so.
I think I might have been under the misunderstanding that the fighter attempting the bullrush maneuver has to "rush", as in move with his target. I guess for flavor, if you have a shield you can use bullrush and just say "I slam the enemy with my shield."
