Eidolon rend has no 1 / turn limitation

Rules Questions

Like the title says,

eidolon rend:

Rend (Ex): An eidolon learns to rip and tear the flesh of those it attacks with its claws, gaining the rend ability. Whenever the eidolon makes two successful claw attacks against the same target in 1 round, its claws latch onto the flesh and deal extra damage. This damage is equal to the damage dealt by one claw attack plus 1-1/2 times the eidolon's Strength modifier. The eidolon must possess the claws evolution to select this evolution. The summoner must be at least 6th level before selecting this evolution.

monster rules rend:

Rend (Ex) If it hits with two or more natural attacks in 1 round, a creature with the rend special attack can cause tremendous damage by latching onto the opponent's body and tearing flesh. This attack deals an additional amount of damage, but no more than once per round. The type of attacks that must hit and the additional damage are included in the creature's description. The additional damage is usually equal to the damage caused by one of the attacks plus 1-1/2 the creature's Strength bonus.

So the regular monster rend rules state that this can only happen once per round. The eidolon rend states that it happens anytime you make two successful claw attacks against the same target in 1 round without any 1/round limitation.

I only bring this up because there was a similar issue with the difference between eidolon pounce and regular bestiary pounce. In that thread some people said that you go with the eidolon version and others said the bestiary version should be used.

So this eidolon rend could be interpreted as activating once every 2 successful claw attacks in the same round.

Yes, general consensus is that specific rules override general rules. So by RAW it goes get massive rending. But luckily this is actually relatively minor. You have to get a bit lucky to get multiple rends before the mid-teens anyway because the rend damage is part of an already existing attack and not a separate attack.

yeah but which of your claw attacks is rend part of? This sort of thing is easier with sneak attack as it activates on each separate attack.
