I know you like your shiny +init dinosaur (and who wouldn't? That's awesome) but in a few levels, consider picking up Improved Familiar. Some of them have hands, and with your ranks in UMD, they can use wands. There's pretty much no resource more precious than actions.
Mage Armor is really nice at low levels, depending on your party makeup. It's a little bit dull, but if you have a druid or a monk in your party, they'll love you for it. For non-fighting spellcasters, Haste is the same way. For your own personal defense, however, nothing beats Mirror Image. (Well, actually, all sorts of things beat Mirror Image, but ime, MI is the best you'll be able to do as far as surviving goes.)
Be careful with summoning. Remember, not only do you not get to move, but it also doesn't arrive until the beginning of your next turn. This means that your DM has the option of popping you in the head while you're waving your arms, and interrupting your spell. Your DM may vary.
Magic Missile is very underwhelming at low levels -- scales badly compared to Shocking Grasp -- but at higher levels is pretty nice. All you really have to worry about it is SR.
