I don´t think it fosters roleplaying hate in general, but I sure do think that this decision is a load of BS. With that reasoning, anything inside a prison can be banned, because you never know what it might bring one day. Clothes? Well, an inmate might fashion a club of sorts from a sleeve and some plaster scraped from the walls, so ban clothes. Sure, it could in theory happen, but what are the chances? This is indeed ridiculous.

We had a guy play briefly in our group that was recently released from prison. He played in prison and the prisoners weren't allowed to have regular dice. So they made dice out of paper and weighted them with salt. They could only make 6 sided die so some conversion to the rules happened. He said that it was fun and the GM was very imaginative with the games.
A little ray of happieness in an otherwise dreary existance I guess.

No havent been on the WotC site since 4e got started.
Aww, you missed all the fun. A bunch of forum regulars banded together calling themselves the 4vengers, and would gang up on and harass anyone who dared had the slightest negative opinion of 4e. The beauty part was, since they were "supporting"(and that's an understatement) WotC's new product, they rarely, if ever, got moderated. They were free to harass and insult to their hearts content.
Not exactly comparable to a prison gang, but still pretty irritating.

I have to wonder what kind of person they got to defend D&D against this silly argument, and what kind of effort the person put into it. I'm guessing it couldn't have been much.
Also, I didn't notice if they just singled out D&D, or was it a ban on all RPGs?
Either way, I'd bet there are waaaayyyy more important things they could have spent time and money on.

Noticed the following among the article comments and thought it was a very good point.
"If you follow this kind of thinking then you have to come to the fact that religion promotes "gang-like" activity where members are encouraged to look to their leader above and beyond any other authority. Some religions pass out pamphlets and try to recruit at the drop of a hat. I don't think they'll be taking away Bibles etc."

I liked reading the comments that Fox News readers left under their article on it. A lot of them were along the lines of "Why are prisoners allowed to play GAMES? Aren't we supposed to be PUNISHING them as harshly as possible for all eternity? They should be locked in a 2 x 2 pit of chest-deep water infested with rats, hanging by their wrists!" Well, OK, so I made up the last example, but the tenor is there.
It was refreshing to read some of the replies, along the lines of, "Wow, dude, that's sure to make them into well-adjusted citizens (NOT!)."

I am 23 years old and upon reading this article I had no other choice than to LOL. Only something like this could happen in my wife's home state. Thanks to this article, I have now officially for the first time in my life (that I recall) used LOL as a verb in a sentence.
Thank you, Wisconsin Legislature, you cursed rats!
