Has there been any delay in publishing the Bestiary 2 recently?

Product Discussion

I've been haunting these boards, and there doesn't seem to be. But:

Near the beginning of this month (the first week), I placed an order on Borders for the Bestiary 2. It was supposed to be shipped by the fifteenth, since the books were supposed to arrive at Borders that week. On the fifteenth, we hadn't gotten the phone call that my order had arrived. We called, and it seemed that the publisher had hit a snag and the book would arrive 2 to 4 weeks late. This seemed odd because:
1. The website listed Paizo as the publisher, and I haven't been able to find news of any trouble with the Bestiary 2 on this website recently.
2. Plenty of people have their copies already.
3. Borders' website listed the book as in stock.
4. I don't live in a particularly isolated place: Oregon, actually
So, I was wondering (because I am really impatient to get my copy) wether their has indeed been trouble with the Bestiary 2, wether a different publisher has had trouble, or wether I probably misinterpreted Borders' message.

NOTE: I would have ordered from Paizo directly since that would've been faster, but I got a gift-card.

Are you talking about Bestiary 2?

Bestiary 3 has not even been announced

And why do I keep making that mistake? I'll try and edit my post...

Gah, I know. And now it seems impossible to edit the title of the thread...

Well, maybe my idiocy will attract more attention to this thread (not having a good day).

I'm betting the site said publisher when it really meant distributor.

... so nothing to be done but wait?

Um, I hate to tell you this.

Borders doesn't pay their bills.

You might be having issues due to that.

*sigh* Likely.

So, uhm, being thirteen an' all and with little legal or practical knowledge or anything, can I probably count on the book arriving within the stated time? Or should I demand a refund and get my Bestiary 2 from Paizo (already considering this)? Getting it from Paizo would be quicker...

Yep. The "snag" you were told about can be more accurately put as, "We're not getting it because we owe them money." The book has been out since December 29th.

Get your money back and call someone else. Where do you live?

Oregon. I'm considering doing just that, and getting it in about a week from Paizo instead of waiting for the best case scenario of three weeks from Borders. Just need to get past the costumer service labyrinth and get my money back already...

Actually, call them, ask to speak to a manager.

Explain who you are, explain about your order.

Tell them about this article, and let them know that you want to cancel your order.

Really, talking to the manager, and discussing the article are kinda over the top, but it lets them know you mean business, and that you are not backing down.

Also, if you are in fact thirteen (which I am not doubting), then make sure you have your parents/legal guardian present, or have them do the talking for you.

Good luck, and I am sorry about your book order. I empathize with waiting for books, only to find out that there are some shenanigans going on.

Using email, since it's an order made more over the website, my mom has explained. And is asking for a cash refund. So I guess they'll get the point :)

The biggest problem may be that they'll only refund with store credit: in which case I won't be using the money on the Bestiary, and only the best thing that happens to be in the store. Which I likely would not get a chance to visit for some weeks (not having my own car obviously, and with my parent's schedules overfull).

They can't only give you store credit, unless you paid with store credit. How did you pay by cash for an internet order, though? If a credit card was used, that is the only way they will refund.

If it was over the internet, your account should have a "cancel order" option. Do that. You'll get a refund without having to resort to managers and articles and legal guardians/parents.

Next, go to a local game store. If you're in Oregon, there should be something nearby. They're bound to have a copy sitting right there on their shelves.

Yeesh. I guess I should have read all of your original post before replying.

You used a gift card from Borders? Then you are correct: you're very likely to only get a gift card as a refund. If the gift card was one sponsored by MC, Visa or American Express, then they will refund to that account number.

Regardless, you should be able to cancel the order on your online account without difficulty. Trade the gift card to your parents for cash and go visit a local game store if you want it tomorrow.

I was in the actual store at the time, and when I learned that the book wasn't in, I used a Christmas gift card to purchase it off the site.

I was using my mom's email, and not a Borders account (I don't have one, not being that fond of Borders).

I may drop by the only Pathfinder-carrying game store in my town for a look, but they may not have it. It's always a mix. The other hobby store doesn't carry Pathfinder at all, and I downright dislike the third one within any distance. The other thing: we sort of live in the country. It could well take more than the shipping time for my parents to find time to actually visit any one of these stores.

Borders is the only local book store in Philomath that would carry the book, that I know of. There are several excellent used book stores within a block of each other, but Bestiary 2 is a bit new and shiny for them. And all the aforementioned options are in town. Not a place I visit regularly.

Don't remember who even gave me the card...

We'll probably do that, but still crossing my fingers for a cash refund. My parents frankly don't have the cash, and even if they did, they are very enthusiastic about work ethic. If it doesn't work out... it'll be awhile 'till I can buy the book someplace out. Currently saving for a convention with friends. And then I'll work back up from broke at $5* a week for chores... thank God for the online srd, right?

I really feel like I live under a rock.

*$4.50, precisely. %10 has to go into savings.

If you're in Oregon, if you select UPS ground as your shipping option here at Paizo, you will get it in one day (usually) if you're ordering something that's in our warehouse.

Doesn't matter. You have an order confirmation number. That should be all you need to cancel the order.

Yeah, I usually go with the cheapest option, but my previous Paizo orders have never been late :)

I wouldn't worry.

I just recieved my book last week, over a month after it was shipped (I subscribe).

Probably has something to do with using the cheapest shipping and living in Norway though, hehe.
