Simple Q - RotRL Start Date

Rise of the Runelords

The Exchange

I know I've read this in the material somewhere before, but we're doing character creation and one of my players wants to know the starting year in order to write up his back story, and I can't remember what it was or where I originally saw it. Anybody recall either?

Thanks in advance.

That actually is a good question, due to the recently released "Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Lost Cities of Golarion" having some relevent information on this.
See the spoiler below, if you are not playing in RotRL.

Spoiler:
Since Lost Cities of Golarion Xin-Shalast written up as if RotRL has already occured, clearly the "Powers That Be" have some dates in mind.

"The Swallowtail Festival begins promptly, as scheduled, on the first day of autumn."

I believe that would be in 4707, since the mod was published in 2007 and that's the convention they've been using (i.e. 4700 A.R. = 2000 A.D.).

I worked this very thing out for my game when it started over a year ago, and I'm trying to keep a track of days as the game progresses.

The Swallowtail Festival should be on or around Lamashan 21, 4707.

The official calendar (slightly different from the 30-day-months that had been mentioned) is being printed in the Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Inner Sea World Guide that's due out in a few months. Whatever the Swallowtail festival of 4707 lands on would be the appropriate start date.

Much appreciated guys! :)

And you know this ... how?

The developers have stated in other threads that the upcoming Inner Sea Guide will have an definitive Absalom reckoning calendar. I'm quite anxious for it seeing as how there have been contradictory information provided about it until now. I'd love to see it posted in a preview for the book.

The nice (and official) editor lady said so. :)

That calendar attached to that link you gave was great Dom. Much appreciated, as well as to the rest who contributed here. Many thanks.

Autumn is usually considered to start with the September equinox (wikipedia), so in Golarion, Rova 23, 4707.

(in 2007, the September equinox was on September 23)

LoL, that's what I get for posting from memory. My current game was in the month of Lamashan when i wrote that, but upon checking my notes, the Swallowtail Festival was indeed in the month of Rova.
