There have been threads on the message boards about taking PDF maps from adventure paths and having them expanded and printed at Kinkos or someplace like that.
Is there anyway to get a short letter giving permission to have these printed for personal use.
I have had a few put on vinyl and I love them but it is sometimes a hassle to get it done.
Thanks....

I'm not an IP lawyer, but I know something about IP and copyright laws because of my profession. Based on my understanding, copying and printing out material for personal use (and our national laws define it including -- beside yourself -- "friends, relatives and familiar persons") is perfectly legal; you're not allowed to make copies for your friends, but they can freely view/use such copies at your home. Over here you could even scan or copy whole books you've checked out from a library, and have your players use these copies during gaming sessions. U.S. laws may be different, but I think you'll be fine if you make copies for personal use only.

Dunno about Kinkos, but Staples has it in their national database that it is allowed for personal use..

Right. The issue isn't what's allowed under the law. The issue is that Kinko's has been sued in the past. Someone at corporate headquarters decided that the safest policy was to "not allow printing of anything copyrighted" or some similarly written broad brush pronouncement. That's why they won't print gaming materials. Although local print shops are now becoming as scarce as game shops, I suggest that you look around for a printer who isn't part of a huge chain.
