I too think Rast is the most likely to be Gorag's friend in Riddleport

Dark Archive

I can't find the game thread. Is it up yet?

Dark Archive

Yes, follow the link Gandal posted earlier today.

Male Dwarf Fighter 1

Sorry for not posting, the boards refused to update my character's profile. It's almost done now. Only traits remain to be selected. I'll do that as soon as the post monster allows it.

Male Mazinger-type Fan of Go Nagai level 38

People seem to having had many problems with posting lately, weird, i hadn't any

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

I lost about 3 in 500 posts...not mega bad, but quite annoying, now I copy all longer posts before submitting them.

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you guys, would be quite a shame if you die before we meet :-)

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

@Gandal:

What are the facing markers for? Do they have any ingame relevance?

Male Mazinger-type Fan of Go Nagai level 38

I like to use them, besides if there are rogues in the fight is useful to know where are flanks and rear.
And i would'nt worry for this fight, it started because of bad diplomacy/bluff checks, but these foes are no match for lvl 1 PCs

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

Now Iam confused, as far as I know you always flank when you draw a line from one PC to another passing the square of the target. And as long as a rogue flanks he can deal extra damage, correct? So why is it important to know the direction someone is facing?

Male Mazinger-type Fan of Go Nagai level 38

I got used to use the facing in my other game, since my other players like to know where their char are facing. We can skip using the facing markers if you don't like

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

No, no, I dind't want to criticize in any way, I'm just always thinking I forgot a rule or something :-)

Male Mazinger-type Fan of Go Nagai level 38

nightflier:
Bombur's stats are 18/10/18/10/10/5 ? that is a 21 points if the dwarf has +2const +2wisd -2char : 18(+17)/10(+0)/16(+10)/10(+0)/8(-2)/7(-4)=+21 also his skills seem a bit too high or maybe i made some mistakes?

It was not updated properly. It seems that board remembered my working version of the character and not final. I am trying to update him, but I'm at work right now.

Male Mazinger-type Fan of Go Nagai level 38

don't worry, you can use him as he is until you are done properly

Female Human Sorceress 1

Funny, I never read the critical damage rule to it's end-always thought multiply would mean multiply the result.

Male Half-elf Cleric/2

Hey Gandal, i hope you don't mind, I changed his campaign trait to give him +1 perception instead of +1 diplomacy. And also moved the skill point in Knowledge Religion to Perseption, I felt it fit him living in Riddleport, protecting his gold pouch (and his silver mug) from the various cutpurses and generally keeping any eye our for danger.

If you would prefer that I leave it the way it was, just let me know and i can change it back.

Edit: On a side note, where'd my half-orc buddy go? :(

Since you still have to do any roll at all doesn't matter, as long as you are good with him.

Gorag hasn't posted anything in Zyren's thread too for some time.I'm in a hurry to start the gambling event so anyone of you can play, if he still hasn't showed i'll assume he is hanging around or NPC him myself

Yeah, I am much happier with him now, thanks. And I promise, no more changes from this point on unless it is adding treasure we find and leveling him up of course.

I work in a photolab...dunno how it works to your places, but in Italy it is worse than prison :(

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

I don't know anything about working in a photolab, I have to admit :-/

Nightflier:
Still having troubles updating Borum? To me he still has too many points in his stats and still the traits are missing

Male Mazinger-type Fan of Go Nagai level 38

I started the game in the wrong day respect at what was written in the modules, didn't noticed, sorry.Corrected now

A bit of explanation is due. Since i don't know how much of this AP you already know.
In the original handout of the deal with the devil, the witness at the bottom of the page is called "old scratch" while "graffazzo" is the name put in the italian version of book one.
That is more or less the normal translation (scratch=graffio) and being the name of a devil i thought "Graffazzo" was more appropriated than just "old scratch" which sounds a bit plain to me.

In english, Old Scratch is a euphimism for the Devil, or Lucifer. It's an error in interpretation if they just directly translated the word 'scratch'.

Male Mazinger-type Fan of Go Nagai level 38

I could tell you far worse....the earlier translation of AD&D novels saw such jewels like:
Bugbear = Pulciorso ( in italian "bug" is something like "insetto-insect" and "pulce" is a in insect, and "bear" is "orso")

Wyrm = Verme (worm)

To turn undead = trasformarsi in non-morto ( "to turn" can be read both as"to make something run away" or "to become something else" and "to become" in italian is "trasformare" ; so a cleric could "become an undead")

Want me to continue ?

Added: i didn't know what Old Scratch meant, or else i would have left it as it was

drayen:
shouldn't be telling you this, but again i don't know how much you already know of the AP, so apologize in advance if i spoil something. The fact is the note gysseannia found is related to the main quest, which continues in the hall

Male Mazinger-type Fan of Go Nagai level 38

I'ld need to know what you want to do with the tournament. Do you want to play every game with its rules or i simply make some rolls (but here someone should have ranks in profession (gambler)) to see the general earning/losses then go on ?

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

Sanya's still not sure wther to play or not, decision will alo depend on Gorag's and Rast's behaviour.

Male Mazinger-type Fan of Go Nagai level 38

anyway apart from traditional gambling games there are four regional variants that the PCs might not know: Bounder,Ghoulette,Golem,Skiffs. Now the problem would be how to play them through PbP

Any gambling that Rast does would be to pass the time. His interest isn't in the tournament, but in finding and meeting with Saul about landing a job as a barkeep/spotter. The picture you posted would probably match what a night at the Publican House looks like, with more drinking and less gambling, so Rast is only on guard because the people at the tables aren't his fellow clerics.

If he was a worshiper of Desna, that would be a completely different story ;).

As to the translations, I studied that field of a little bit and it can be really difficult, most likely the translator was someone who didn't know the significance of Old Scratch or wanted to avoid the religious connotation, thus the literal translation of the action. Also with the strict deadlines, some aspects don't get analyzed as much as it probably should be, like the fact that a bugbear is actually a fey type creature from mythology, but again, a literal translation is given to the not so fey like equivalent in D&D. But no worries Gandal, I am enjoying the game thus far and appreciate the effort you are putting in to the game.

Okay, attribute scores. 20 point buy: I've bought 16 two times for 10 point each. I've put 7 in Charisma, and that nets me 4 points. I plan to buy 12 two times for 2 points each. Is my math good?

Dark Archive

I like your math!

It is perfect

Male Mazinger-type Fan of Go Nagai level 38

Ok times call for a party decision. We are fully in the tournament, of course we can as well ignore it, let me just write a short description of the event as a summary and then proceed to the following happenings.
But the gambling tournament is part of the main quest of this AP, so i think it would'nt be appropriate to just skip it like it was never there.
But can be really tricky play such games in a PbP; what your thoughts?

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

if you can display the games via dice rolls, that's perfect for me.

Any way you want to play it, Gandal.

Male Mazinger-type Fan of Go Nagai level 38

OK, i'll come up with something
