SRD Spellbook 1.2 for iPhone and iPod Touch

I have recently published an app for iPhone and iPod Touch that makes referencing spells quick and easy. The app includes all the spells from the System Reference Document as well as quite a few spells released as Open Content in other sources. You can search for spells by name or anything in the spell description, as well as browse by spell name, class, or cleric domain. You can save your spells in a list of favorites for quick reference. Finally, cross-references to other spells mentioned in spell descriptions link directly to the mentioned spell. Reading up on resist energy and and quite remember how protection from energy works? Just click on the link instead of flipping pages.

It has the APG class lists, does it contain the APG spells?

Yes, as of version 1.2 it has the APG classes and spells.

Just bought your app
2 things that I would love to see
- a iOS as opposed to an iPhone exclusive version, so it scales to full size on my iPad
- a spell book mode where it it is favorites by character name (and you specify for what class that character is) then organized by level.

My friend just bought it, it looks interesting. He pointed out that it allows for export of the spell list. Any chance of allowing an import option? The ability to type in your own custom spells to have them all in one place would certainly make the app more useful as a single go-to point for spell lists.

Spell imprt is quite a bit harder to do right, so I haven't made any concrete plans to add it to the app yet. Bulk import is tricky, since the spells would have to be saved in a specific format the app could understand. Direct user entry of spells is more straightforward, but typing a lot of text on a mobile device is not a great experience.

I try to do regular updates to the app to incorporate new spells as they are added to www.d20pfsrd.com so that users have access to as many Open Content spells as possible out of the box (with an option to hide non-core spells for strict DMs).

What are the sources of the spells that you would want to import into the app? Are they from Paizo or 3rd party sourcebooks? If so, do you know if are proprietary, or if they were released as Open Content under the OGL? Or are they homebrew spells created by DMs or players?

It would be mostly spells from non-OGL 3.5 books (Complete books, some Malhavok). I wouldn't ask or expect you to incorporate them yourself, since they aren't OGL.

Its more the flexibility that would be appealing. (Since you seem to be using an SQL database it can see it might be difficult to make it user friendly.)

Its not a deal breaker, but it would be a definite plus if you could make it work. And I agree that manually entering from the iOS interface would not be a great way. I have PhoneDisk which allows uploading without jailbraking. Something that could be done on a computer and then uploaded would be the best of all worlds.

Being able to create custom spellbooks would indeed be great! Right now I'm simply adding my Oracle's spells to Favourites, but I'm also running a Witch in another, freshly started campaign so being able to save individual spellbooks would be awesome.

I just bought the app and love it besides the spell book idea which would be awesome. If it organized the favorite spells by level that would be very useful.

Since it seems the app is focused on PFRPG spells, you'd probably be better served if it was in one of the PF specific areas. I've already flagged it for being in the wrong forum, so hopefully they will get it moved for you and you can get a lot more views from likely customers.

Since this thread has been brought back up for air, I'd like to add another nice to have: Multiple favorites lists. As it is, its good for a PC. But if you add multiple favorite lists, it will turn into a great one for a DM. If I had an app where I could pull up a spell list for each NPC caster in a given session, that would make life so much easier.
