i know, its a long shot, but it never hurts to ask.
at about the transition time between adnd and 3.0, there was an article about rare sets of armor that can be used as a quest item for campaigns, or getting the armor could be the campaign. I now have a campaign where i would like to bring in this one set of armor, but i cannot remember the name of the armor, or what issue of dragon it is found in. and i just cannot go look in my archive, because my archive is in storage in northern wisconsin, in a better insulated and climate controlled shelter than i live in.
so here is what i know/remember
the armor was magical in nature (duh. lol)it was like bracers of armor on hulk steroids, the armor value was enormous.
the armor granted the user the ability to haste at will, but with the old rules of the spell haste, it aged the wearer too.
the wearer could sacrifice 1 hp and gain 25 temp HPs.
it can absorb magical spells like a rod of absorption. But, it will also dissipate the energy given time.
the flavor text says something like "... the 4 known suits of this armor were last used to protect "holy person" from a raving horde of balor demons. the wearers didnt die from wounds of the battle, but from loss of vitality to the personal sacrifices and from the multiple haste spells.."
