I just downloaded the PDF copy of the Map Folio and I noticed that the legend on it says 2000 feet. That seemed a bit off so I looked at the map in AP #37, and sure enough the legend (which is less than half as wide) is 2 miles.
Personally I'm more fond of the larger map scale (i.e. where the island is ~15 miles from north to south) vs. this new 1.25 mile long island.
Since my group hasn't yet made it to the island, I'm wondering which scale to use. I'm also curious how other GMs have handled this. Alternately, if any devs could comment, it would be appreciated.

Ugh... lame.
That's an error. The map scale in the adventure is correct; Smuggler's Shiv is about 15 miles long from north to south.
The map scale is correct for the other maps of the cities—those locations are MUCH smaller than Smuggler's Shiv. The scale simply got the art equivalent of a copy/paste error, and no one caught it. Lovely.

Oh damn. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news then. :(
I do appreciate the quick reply and clarification though. Thanks for that!
With that in mind, just sizing things up with the measuring tool in photoshop, if the map folio's scale is considered 4 miles, then that works out to a length of 14.7 miles, so that seems about right. Each tick would thus be 1/2 a mile.
Not that I'm complaining, but back when I was running RHoD, my players started noticing that everytime they ran into a capable NPC, it was always a red-head. We're on to you buddy! ;D

On the plus side, I just got my map folio and it looks like the error might be limited to the PDF. My PDF has the error, but the printed map does list 4 miles.

Necroing this post because something interesting happen with my table this week.
I was running this for a second group. After getting through book 6 and some other things the players decided based on buying nobility section of the sargava lost colony book to go for a title and deed to the smugglers shiv. They pooled gold and purchased the title. 14 miles x 12 miles is roughly 108,000 acres.
100 acre of jungle is 500g.
1080 x 500 = 540,000 gold. Because its an island they offered the Baron 600,000 gold.
Title granted was "Grand Shiver of the Western Light" It was purchased on 22nd Pharast 4711. This thread helped figure out the rough cost, as we didnt wanna be precise and nitpick.
