Looking to pre-register and reserve a hotel room early... like very soon... to make sure I have one for the convention! Just thought I would ask here for more info. Thanks for the response!
When does that start? In a couple of weeks right?
Edit: Jan 23 at noon

VIG registration starts Jan. 11 - 16, and general registration starts Jan 23rd.
Hotel registration is usually quite a bit later unless you do the VIG thing. The Jan 11 - 16 is only if you have done VIG previously.
Didn't volunteer for Pazio before. Not sure I will. Have so much to do their. Plus 7 + hours of flight time. Usually 10 or so of actual travel to do some volunteering instead of playing. Hard to convince myself.

Hotel Registration starts a couple of days after Pre registration starts, so most Likely Tuesday like last year, on the 25th.

I am thinking about doing the V.I.G. this year. But if I am able to purchase a V.I.G. ticket (I am guessing that is done on the 23rd), will I still get good pick for a hotel? That is one of the bonuses, correct?
Yep the VIG's have a special block of rooms set aside for them. I don't know which hotels in particular they reserve, but given the cost of the VIG ticket, it is in the walkway loop, not driving distance.

Well it's been a couple of years that I had to get a room put side VIG or my friend just taking care of, but in 08' I was pretty sure the hotel registration was a good month later. You received a code to be able to do it after you purchased a badge.
They are constantly improving so maybe it's different now.
They always had it start at 8 am eastern time and living in Alaska that kind of sucked. Of course my current job I get up at 4 am.

Ok, thanks.
A buddy of mine and I talked about getting a V.I.G. (for this year) during last GenCon due to some of the amenities it gives, mainly in getting a hotel room more easily. That has always been such a pain to get. It’s gotten better over the years, but even last year I had issues getting a room where by the time I checked out, all four nights (in the hotel I wanted) were not available. And I was right there when hotel registration started. Fortunately, when I called up the housing authority they were eventually were able to switch us over to the same hotel for all four nights.
Hopefully if I am able to get a V.I.G. pass I can avoid the hassle with the hotel room. And I do hope rooms are available right there across the convention center. What we have always gotten was the Courtyard by the Marriott, which is kitty corner of the convention center.

Please explain VIG. Keep in mind this will be my first Gen Con. And any other advice for a first time Gen Con GM would be great as well.
To be clear, I am not a new GM; I run PFS for three local conventions a year, plus a scenario every other week at our FLGS. What kind of insanity am I lookung at? And how best to prepare?

This link explains it better than I ever could

Omni and Hilton are close as well. With the Hilton being preferred for people who like a good amount of space in their room for gaming.
Personally have only done the Wetin, Conrad! And Sheraton.
Westin from here out probably.
Plus this year Gencons exhibit hall is in the new section and they do not currently plan on using the whole hall way and old exhibit area. (AKA where the auction was that hall way, or section A though d if you pull up the map of the convention center).

Supposedly the East entrance to the convention center will be the new main entrance, rather than the North entrance.
That makes the hotels to the north less desirable and the train track one (I can't remember its name) becoming the new desirable hotel, as it will be right accross from the the new entrances. (or at least closer).

Crowne Plaza at Union Station?

Yeah, that's the one!

Hey now! I signed chronicles for 11 official Gen Con tables last year.
