Shatter rules

Rules Questions

I've been running one of the Adventure paths for a few days now and Shatter keeps reappearing, and though my PCs have yet to come across any of the people that have the spells I have a feeling that they are about to.

Regarding Held items do the items get a save against the shatter? Also are magical items harder in any way to shatter? If not I think my next wizard should just pile on these spells and just turn every fighter into paste.

Page to get familiar with.

Held items are considered attended and get the same save as the owner. Magical items have increased hardness and HP. A magic item's Fortitude, Reflex, and Will save bonuses are equal to 2 + half its caster level. An attended magic item either makes saving throws as its owner or uses its own saving throw bonus, whichever is better.

Thank you very much that page has a lot more info than certain pages of the core book, now I can go about destroying the party tank's incredible 27 AC at level 1 so I can actually touch him with a boss that is 3 levels higher than him.

You may want to double check that. I don't see anyway a character could possibly have 27 AC at level 1, without some very broken wealth by level going on.

It may have been 25 but otherwise it was legit, he went only for AC and can't hit worth anything. He managed to convince the party that all the money currently should go to him, and he crafted himself some full plate with some lucky crafting rolls. Also getting a tower shield and getting every feat possible for AC defense. He is also a Phalanx fighter but that doesn't do much for him yet.

Though in the last game he had picked up a wand of shield and tried to use it before it was identified and failed by over 15 so i had it backfire shredding some of his armor making it essentially useless, the tower shield is still causing problems, and once he gets another suit of armor He'll be back into the 23s+.

Throughout the adventure path they give me plenty of shots at temporarily taking down their AC though. (i almost feel that it was written with our tower shield fighter in mind)

I suppose disregarding gold limits you could get AC 26 at level 1.

Full-plate +9
Tower shield +4
Dex +1
Dodge +1
Shield Prof +1

The character is going to be absolutely terrible at anything an armor check penalty can apply to. Might also throw some grapple or sunder type encounters.

Yeah we had an encounter where he heard a roar and tried to climb (he fell) down a 80 foot hole into some water, home of a bunyip. Though he was hurting from the fall and was holding his breath in the water since the armor was too heavy to swim out of the water, the bunyip only landed a few attacks but by that time the party had gotten down and healed him and after a few round they got him out of the water and chased the bunyip off.

He knows that armor check is his worst enemy since his stealth check penalty is worse than trying to hear a battle going on, so every enemy ever knows he is coming. Right now the party is dealing with tons of goblins but once he gets up to the medium sized things and casters I think he'll be in for a rude awakening.
