My players are interesting in following up on Shivanshen's whereabouts as detailed in the note from the Chelish Crux. I'm torn, because while I want the AP to seem as "un-railroady" as possible, I am wondering how much effort I want to put into them traveling all the way to Nidal to figure out he's not there.
Part of me was going to just have Ailyn say that her contacts in the Pathfinder Society figured out that Shivanshen returned to Cheliax and that he never officially returned to the Pathfinders.
But Nidal is kind of interesting.
If I did let them wander into Nidal, what should I have them find out there? What should they run into, that would send them back to Cheliax and Westcrown?

Have them encounter a vampire spawn at night. (I had the mist wander around because the victim has new and didn't have a coffin) Have them hear about vampire sightings. This may get them to realize that Sivanshin is in town, or at least nearby.
Have Ailyn mention the Morrowfall. I can't remember if it is mentioned in the Crux's note, but have her come back with newly found information about a relic that may be in Delvehaven brought back by sivanshin and bisby that was related to a sun diety and was only a piece of a larger relic. This may get them to realize that this relic would be very useful against a powerful vampire.
In any case, keep them from going to Nidal and towards Delvehaven.
They will really want to go to Nidal after Delvehaven, but the AP has a solution for that!
My party has forgotten (temporarily at least) about Nidal due to the fourth book's events and is about to begin the fifth book.

The note that is in the cache of Pathfinder booty in the Wave Door mentions the Morrowfall and gives a pretty strong hint that the missing Pathfinder may now be a vampire, so I guess at least some of this will be based on if they want to follow up on the other lost Pathfinder first or explore the Wave Door.

If they don't have motivation to check out the wave door, have Ailyn suggest an expedition.
If they don't have motivation to check out the fates of the pathfinders, remember that Ailyn is supposed to offer a nice reward for the knowledge of the fates of each of the pathfinders, and several are likely to be in town.

They have already recovered the bodies from Massacre House and the Devildrome, so I'm thinking that I'll mention that Ailyn is having her people look into Shivanshen's exploits, if she can find any, and have them talk to the bodies and resolve the Wave Door puzzle, and let them decide if they want to follow up on the Wave Door or go to Nidal.
I'm fairly certain they'll hit the Wave Door first before going to Nidal, and that might nudge them towards leaving Nidal alone until they check out Delvehaven.
If not, I at least gave them options but pointed them the right way.
