Flyby Attack writeup gives me a real headache. I wonder who wrote it. There couldn't have been a worse way of writing this feat's description.
First:
"This creature can make an attack before and after it moves while flying."
Before AND after? So it means a creature with flyby attack can make 2 attacks? And if the first attack is before the move, and the second one is after the move, then it means it cannot make an attack during the move, which I thought is the entire point of the feat.
Second:
"Benefit: When flying, the creature can take a move action and another standard action at any point during the move."
Why does it say "and another standard action"? Why "another"? It hints there was another standard action somewhere. Where?
And finally:
"The creature cannot take a second move action during a round when it makes a flyby attack."
Why is this mentioned exactly? If someone took a standard action and a move action so of course it cannot take another move action, per the standard rules.

Eagle with fly by attack has a movement of 80.
Qithout fly by attack, it can move up to 80, attack, and "stop" there (its actually still moving but it has to wait for its turn) The fighter its attacking can then whale on it with a full attack.
With flyby attack, the creature can move X distance, and then get 80-X distance away from the fighter. Unlike spring attack, it doesn't draw an attack of opportunity, but at least he doesn't get full attacked.

Well the way the feat reads you can take a standard action then move and while moving take another standard action, but can't use this standard action to complete another move action.
Gives more reason to fear dragons I guess... breathe move and cast a spell while staying out of range of the ape-types below.

Flyby Attack
Benefit: "While fly, the creature can take a move action and another standard action at any point during the move. The creature can not take a second move action during a round when it makes a flyby attack.
Normal: Without this feat, the creature takes a standard action either before or after its move.
......
So by RAW = You can take (Standard Action) + (Move Action) + (another standard action at any point throw the move).
......
This sound to me like a badly written feat. As now i can see spell, move and spell. Being done by flyers.... Which i do not think was the RAI.
......
I would think a better way to write it would have been:
"While flying, the creature can take a standard action at some point during its move action when it makes a flyby attack, and then finish the move action. The creature can not take a second move or second standard action during a round when it makes a flyby attack.
This way you end up with (Move then standard action then move finished).
Which is what i think the original RAI was.

+1
The actual writing seems impossible to understand...??

Yeah, that original looks a bit weird. The 3.5 SRD version was only a little clearer:
Flyby Attack [General]
PrerequisiteFly speed.
BenefitWhen flying, the creature can take a move action (including a dive) and another standard action at any point during the move. The creature cannot take a second move action during a round when it makes a flyby attack.
NormalWithout this feat, the creature takes a standard action either before or after its move.
It looks like they might have tried to clean up the language, but maybe they should have modeled it more closely on the language from Spring Attack.
Man, I can't wait for Pathfinder Plain English Edition.
