Male Thri-Kreen Barbarian 5 :: HP 53/53 +0 temp; Surges 10/10 [ AC 20, F 20, R 19, W 13 ]

Th'Kal hands the other end of the rope to Carric and Gorad, and then leaps in.

Athletics check: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18

Saves vs Paralization and Cold (assuming that's two saves):
Save vs Para: 1d20 ⇒ 14
Save vs Cold: 1d20 ⇒ 9
Edit: So, does that mean, I'm not paralized, but I am taking 5 cold damage ongoing?

Is this a skill challenge that other divers can help with, or am I making all of the athletics checks?
Should I roll two more athletics checks or just wait?

The paralization and cold are a single effect from the trap, you only needed to make one save which you made.

You can have 1 person help but they would have to go down the well also. Two people in the well could wedge both of them in the well if someone needed to be rescued.

keep rolling athletics checks until you have 3 success before you have 2 failures.

success 1
failures 0

For someone who's never even seen a bath Th'Kal swims like a fish to the bottom of the well and after a tense minute manages to chip the skull free of the encasing ice. Th'Kal easily makes it out of the well with the prize but what are you going to do with it.
The skull is cold enough to burn and emanates a malign aura.

Male Thri-Kreen Barbarian 5 :: HP 53/53 +0 temp; Surges 10/10 [ AC 20, F 20, R 19, W 13 ]

Th'Kal stands over the well trying very hard to make sure every drop of water that runs off him lands in the well. Long moments pass as he stares in fascination at a single droplet collecting along his lower arm, dropping into the well, and causing ripples over the surface...

When the last wave stops. "I don't like holding this any more. *Bwlrrrzzp*(bug noise) I vote crush it, then burn it, then bury it with whatever herbs Carric or Gorad recommend, just to be safe and maybe then the water will be clensed. But you're all all the smart ones." Th'Kal thrusts the skull towards Andar and Paxs, then towards Gorad and Carric... "You can find the best action."

Male Human Psion 1

"Set it on the ground until we find a way to handle it safely." Andar looks at it closely. Arcana 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12. Can I tell what function it might have?

You think it's a soul jar with the ability to possess dead bodies.

Male Human Psion 1

Andar explains his suspicions about the skull. "This may be of interest to someone, or may be valuable at any rate. Perhaps if we wrapped it in a cloak, we could transport it."

Male Thri-Kreen Barbarian 5 :: HP 53/53 +0 temp; Surges 10/10 [ AC 20, F 20, R 19, W 13 ]

Th'Kal just stares at you while his left antenna twitches...
"I don't understand."
"Is there already someone in it? Or is it empty and it can trap one of us? <click> I'm still for crushing, burning, burrying, and burning one more time for good measure... It had the power to pull brother-Carric into the well. Will a piece of cloth stop that?"

Honestly, I could be convinced either way... if it's something we can use or sell, then someone with the best Willpower should probably carry the thing, just in case (and NOT Gorad -- healers are too valuable to lose to some skull-soul-trap-jar thing, lol).

Male Elf Druid/lvl 1

While I was the one pulled into the well by it, I do have a 16 will defense

Arcana check (I am a bit curious about it)1d20 - 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 = 6

Even though I was held in thrall by it, I may be able to resist it's call since I know a bit more about it's alure. Whatever the clan... group decides, I will abide by.

Male Thri-Kreen Barbarian 5 :: HP 53/53 +0 temp; Surges 10/10 [ AC 20, F 20, R 19, W 13 ]

Well, the sucking into the well effect was a save and we all have the same chance on that one... maybe I'm just paranoid, but any future attacks from/by/towards the skull seem like they'd have a good chance to be will based, so you might be the best canidate to carry it...

"Carric has already felt the effects, maybe he's the best one to carry it - he may feel something wrong before one of us."
Th'Kal remembers the well... checks the water with a claw and peers down to the depths.

Is the water still unnatural? Nature: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Is there anything at the bottom of the well: Perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
EDIT: lol, Th'Kal must just be overwhelmed or unnerved by all that water... I can't imagine he learned anything from those rolls -- he'll stick to ripping skulls out of the ground ;)

Male Human Psion 1

"Maybe this is something Paxs would be more familiar with," Andar says acidly with a telling glare at his arcanist companion.

Male Elf Druid/lvl 1

I don't care who holds it so long as I don't have to kill them if they get enthralled...

Starts heading outside as there seems to be nothing else in here.

Male Half Elf Summoner 14 HP 83/95; AC 22, F +9 R +9 W +12; Init +8; Perc +2 and +9 for Thrak

Paxs shrug sheepishly and leans over to take a better look.

Arcana 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24

Paxs:
The soul inside the skull and could lure others to it and try to possess them or any dead creature around it.

@Everyone - Once the skull was removed from the well the ice starts to melt and tempatures begin to rise to normal Athasian levels.
The water seems to be clear, pure and safe to drink.

"That thing in the skull will try to control people or bodies, destroy it now. I believe it is a defiler, and must be destroyed."

The skull can be easily destroyed by inflicting 10hp damage so a couple of good whacks would do it in.

Also if nobody thought of it yet, water is more precious than gold on Athas and the location of a secret well is a valuable commodity to any caravan or army.

Andar ponders Gorad's words and regards Paxs warily. "I suppose time will tell," he says, finally.

"Very well, let's destroy this vile artifact. And no doubt the caravan will be interested in the well. It's too valuable to go to waste."

Male Thri-Kreen Barbarian 5 :: HP 53/53 +0 temp; Surges 10/10 [ AC 20, F 20, R 19, W 13 ]

"I believe in our clutch-brother Paxs. He has protected us all so far. And. I trust Gorad -- he is very wise. If he stands with Paxs, then I stand with Paxs."

To emphasize his point, Th'Kal slams his borrowed londsword down on the skull.
Howling Strike: 1d8 + 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (1) + (4) + 5 = 10

Then he waits, almost assuming that something dark will rise from the skull...

After a moment or two of silence...
"This well is an incredible find. Being underground, it should be protected from Athas' heat. We need to get back to Qaqalil and father. They'll want to know about this."

Male Human Ranger 1

"Let us hope they will use it sensibly." Gerad has been listening, as his companions talk of things he doesn't really understand. But water, that he knows the value of.

Male Elf Druid/lvl 1

"Why don't we keep this location to ourselves? Why should we share it with those who would abuse it and/or profit from it?"

Male Human Psion 1

Andar looks puzzled. "What would we do with this? We will surely cover great distances with the caravan. I don't know if I shall ever return to this place. It seems an opportunity to replenish our supplies and perhaps make a tidy sum, but I don't see the benefit in guarding it."

OOC stuff:
Paxs, I hope you don't mind me playing it up. I figured somebody should take the "Arcane magic is icky" angle, and I think it fits Andar pretty well.

Male Thri-Kreen Barbarian 5 :: HP 53/53 +0 temp; Surges 10/10 [ AC 20, F 20, R 19, W 13 ]

Th'Kal doesn't understand the turn on his caravan. It's been his home since... well, since birth"Andar's right, keeping the well a secret doesn't help us -- the caravan is home and EMPLOYER." Th'Kal emphasizes that last word. "Keeping them happy is in our best interest." I need my gear fixed! lol

Andar's OOC:
Andar, that's how I read it -- I knew you were just playing the character's reaction. I thought it was a good response! Particularly from your character -- you have the most knowledge of the arcane and didn't have the backstory with Paxs... I think it was spot on, in my opinion --- and a good subtle shift towards the "we'll see" so the party wasn't in a negative state - no worries on my end. I think Gorad's and my reactions were character based too, hope we didn't scare you off!

M Mul Shaman 2 Elemental Priest

Andar and Th'kal ooc:It's all good as a somewhat obscure class myself it fits me to be somewhat flippant with the social norms, which is over whelmingly antiarcane

Okay..

Male Half Elf Summoner 14 HP 83/95; AC 22, F +9 R +9 W +12; Init +8; Perc +2 and +9 for Thrak

You are totally fine Andar, if anyone would have a problem with me it for sure would be the Psion, who would know i am not one too

Male Human Psion 1

So how best do we approach the caravan? Do we simply inform them of the well and hope for reward? Do we offer to sell the knowledge?

Male Thri-Kreen Barbarian 5 :: HP 53/53 +0 temp; Surges 10/10 [ AC 20, F 20, R 19, W 13 ]

I vote we fill up as much water as we can carry and then report the position of the well to the caravan. It doesn't do us any future good to keep it a secret, and I'm sure there's some sort of reward/bonus for finding water -- I wouldn't think that we'd have to sell the location to the caravan.

Th'Kal begins to fill his waterskins.
"Let's get back to the caravan. We've got information to report back and we have some items to get repaired."

Th'Kal makes for the exit.

Unless you want to hang out at the well any longer I assume you head back to the caravan.

As you near the caravan Qaqaqa, one of Chajaj’s Lieutenants, and two outriders ride up to to you, "How fairs you brothers? Have you spilled the blood the elves who murdered our comrades?"

Male Human Psion 1

Do we know how the caravan generally handles water discoveries? Would we know who we should tell?

Male Elf Druid/lvl 1

I do fill my waterskin after taking a healthy drink before leaving the well.

"Yes."
Carric just keeps on walking and returnes to his post.

Male Half Elf Summoner 14 HP 83/95; AC 22, F +9 R +9 W +12; Init +8; Perc +2 and +9 for Thrak

Pax also takes a long drink from his waterskin before refilling it.

Male Thri-Kreen Barbarian 5 :: HP 53/53 +0 temp; Surges 10/10 [ AC 20, F 20, R 19, W 13 ]

"Qaqalil, our fallen packmates have been avenged. Two of the elfs ran away... But we did find some interesting news: The elf were being lead by a defiler, some necromancer - dead now. More importantly, we think we found a good source of clean water hidden away."
Hope it doesn't upset anyone about the water... my understanding of bug-psych is that he wouldn't keep this a secret from his larger pack (the caravan).

Th'Kal begins to head towards Azojich (Weapons mercahnt, right?) hoping that the caravan leader will follow him if he needs more info.
Th'Kal's not trying to be rude, he's just knows he needs to fix his weapons, and Qaqalil knows where Th'Kal can be found.

We've got salvaged gear to sell, some us need repairs, and Th'Kal could use a good night's sleep -- low on surges

"This is good news indeed, you have killed our enemies and found us a boon, Qaqalil will be pleased." "How large is the water supply? I place you in charge Andar of leading a few water wagons to collect what we can."
"Rest & re-equip you will depart at sun rise."

Qaqaqa Rides back to camp yelling orders to prepare for the mornings excursion as he goes.

@Anadar - You paid a bounty of 1cp per 10 gallons or you can 'bank' the water for water rations that you can redeem for personal use latter.

Male Thri-Kreen Barbarian 5 :: HP 53/53 +0 temp; Surges 10/10 [ AC 20, F 20, R 19, W 13 ]

Selling the 3 lonswords, short swords, and armor at 50% retail, nets the group 82gp and 5sp. Split between us, we're talking an additional 13gp, 7sp, and 5cp per person.

@Xabulba Is there a cost to repair items? Also, I'm thinking of trading my flail (backup weapon) for a battleaxe. Can I do that with Azojich?

Th'Kal wrote:

@Th'Kal - Repairing weapons is free but if you want to change weapons it will cost you 75% of book cost.

Male Human Psion 1

Andar leads the wagons to the entrance to the subterranean chamber.

I think banking it is probably the way to go.

Male Thri-Kreen Barbarian 5 :: HP 53/53 +0 temp; Surges 10/10 [ AC 20, F 20, R 19, W 13 ]

I agree with banking the water, and whatever good-fortune we've gathered by getting the caravan a new water source -- I can't imagine that if we went for the payoff, it would be that much.
It sounded like the bounty was paid to the group.
At 1cp per 10gallons it isn't going to amount to much per person unless the well is connected to some underground lake.
(A standard well now-a-days is 300ft deep, if that's the case, a 5ft diameter well at 300ft of water is about 45000gallons meaning we'd get 45gold to THE GROUP, -- it didn't seem to be 300ft deep, though -- most ancient wells were in the 20-30ft depth range which only gets us about 3gold for the GROUP)... yeah,
So I say we bank the water and the positive feelings for finding it.
We might be able to cash in a favor later on :)

Male Human Ranger 1

Bank it. We can perhaps trade it in for a favour later.

Finnish up anything you want to in camp so we can move on to the water recovery.

Male Thri-Kreen Barbarian 5 :: HP 53/53 +0 temp; Surges 10/10 [ AC 20, F 20, R 19, W 13 ]

All set.
Would this be considered a full rest?

@Th'kal yes it would.

@everyone - I might have confused you earlier when I said you would be paid 1cp per 10 gallons. The 1cp stands for 1 ceramic piece not copper piece. 1 ceramic equals 1 silver, each ceramic piece can be broken into 10 pieces called a bit and each bit equals 1 copper. There are rectangular ceramic coins called crowns that equal 1 gold but they can't be broken down to smaller denominations.

The band leads the water carriers to the well without incident. At the well I assume that you set up a basic perimeter to protect the workers as they begin the tedious task of filling the empty casks full of the clean water from the well.

Everyone give me a perception check.
