Help us Understand the Lion / Wolf / Eagle / Snake Shaman

Rules Questions

Shadow Lodge

A friend of mine and I are having a disagreement on the exact extent and nature the new wild shape abilities for the APG Archetype Shaman are. Perhaps you guys could help.

Our specific issue occurs around level 6.

From the raw text, what I infer is that when the druid attempts to shift into a "feline form" they get to treat their ability as level 8 but in non-feline forms they treat the ability at level 4.

Does this mean they get to use wild shape 3x/day to turn into a cat?

Is the druid stuck at only wild shaping 2x/day because it's hard to mix/match?

What about the 1x/day allowed at level four? Does this mean they can transform three times per day as long as at least two are into cat form?

Do they get to transform into the diminutive/huge variants of feline creatures or are they limited to their level 6 forms of small/large?

Basically, how does the disparity between using the same power in two entirely different manners reconcile?

One last thing, if possible, pointing me to the right thread which I'm completely unable to find where a developer talks about this, or by putting it in terms of quoted rules will go a long ways to helping us both understand the issue.

There was a thread concerning this, and I believe one of the developers weighed in.

o Shaman Wild Shape (Su) You can change shape 3 times / day for up to 8 hours, You can change into any Diminutive, Tiny, Small, Medium, Large or Huge totem animal., When changing into an totem animal, this functions as Beast Shape III

o Wild Shape (Su) You can change shape 1 time / day for up to 4 hours, You can change into any Small or Medium animal., When changing into an animal, this functions as Beast Shape I

You can Shape Shift three times per day, but at least two of them must be as your Shaman shape.

Level 4-5, druids would normally get WS. An animal shaman does not get any wild shape at all at those levels (but can use their separate totem transformation power).

At 6th level, they finally gain the WS ability. When using it to assume the form of their totem, they are treated as if they were 8th level druids in all respects (see my above post). When using it to assume any other form, they are treated as 4th level druids in all respects (again, see above).
