I've been searching and can't find anything close to this situation. Reason being is there is a ranger in the group but someone else saved an animal and got lucky with some rolls. Ranger generally treats the animal better and keeps it included in the game rather than just a tag along. ANyways, just looking for some rule clarity here.

If the animal is just a NPC, then you can do with it what you want. I'd think the best solution would be to let I roam with the group as a whole, and connect to whomever treats it good (sounds like it is the ranger at this point).
I'd avoid giving it entirely to the Ranger, if the other player is also interested in it.
Can't it just do what both of them tells it, or tries to make it do?

Itis a pet do not get hug up on it cause it resoure. One it dose have higher order type of reasoning. (IE INT 2)The animal dose not care. One hour after the battelit does not care any more. It dose not care how nice you are or what ever. If you have food I like you, If you pet me I like you. You bother me while I am sleeping I do not like you, Bother me while eating I do not like, Bother me while mating I do not like you.
Verey simple anmail mind. that why you have to take action to tell to do some thing.
On Side note "If you the GM Create" some rule just to take my pet and give it to another PC or some one else. I would be pissed (Problery piss on the game or leave). Cause while pet dose not care the Person play it sure would. That Is Realy Cruel thing to do. What would you do if you came home and your pet is gone. And the next time you go to freinds house and it setting on the floor playing over there. Sorry I paid 150 Bucks to get it shots and tags up to date so it mine now. Go find a new one. This one is mine not yours. Real Cruel

To be clear, is it really an animal "cohort" (cohorts are gained by selecting the Leadership Feat), or is it just some random animal that someone saved? I would say that a Ranger couldn't "usurp" a creature gained by selecting the Leadership feat (even if attracting an animal is an unusual use of that feat), but if it's just a random badger or something, anybody should be able to teach it tricks, etc., once it's attitude has been made friendly.
