Since Purple Duck Games does not sell their products on Paizo. I thought I would post a review here anyways.
Encounter Pages by Purple Duck Games
This product is 23 pages long. It starts with a intro and credits, plus a quick reference table for the encounters. (1 pages)
Next it jumps right into the encounters. The range anywhere from 1 page to 3 pages long each. Each one has a encounter, most combat, a setup, and reward. They range from 1st level to 17th level. They are designed as filler encounters, PC's go in a expected direction? You can pull out one of these to carry the action for a bit. Also each encounter list a couple of optional complications to make things more challenging or interesting. It also includes one map for the 17th level encounter. (19 pages)
Danger at the Docks
Pickpocket
Rendezvous Point
The Green Chapel
Body Count
Pyramus and Thisbe
The Four Cavaliers
Escaped Prey
The Red Wave
Have I Got A Deal
Medusa Oracle
Respite from the Storm
It finishes with 3 pages of OGL. (3 pages)
Closing thoughts. I love the idea of this product. They are short encounters you can use in a hurry if things go in a unexpected direction. I think most GM's like to keep a few premade encounters around just in case, but often the PC's out level them or move to a new area etc. Making the GM make more. This is made to fill in that slot, they take place in a variety of locations. There is also one new legacy sword in this product.
The encounters are general well written and interesting that could easily lead to hooking the players into wanting to know more about the encounter. I am not a big number cruncher, I didn't notice any obvious errors in the stat blocks but I wouldn't notice unless they was big. I am judging this more on how interesting the encounters where made and well written the product was.
Of the 12 encounters I would say 5 are good to very good and I liked a lot. 2 was inventive but felt a bit forced for them to work. 3 either take a bit of prework to make work I felt, or would need work for a follow up, assuming the PC's try to learn more about whats going on. 1 was ok and would need work on the GM's part for a follow up. The last one is kinda weird and very oddly specific on the set up, it could be modified though.
There is no artwork and only a single map. For a first attempt for a fairly new company I thought this was pretty good. There is enough hear to make it worth picking up if you want or need a few encounters to help fill out your game. I think there is a market for this and would like to see PD Games make more of these. For the price of 3 bucks I am giving this a 3 star. Worth it if the product idea appeals to you.
