I don't know if I'm getting old or what, but I really, really have difficulty reading a PDF where there's black characters in a dark brown box. I wish you would get rid of the dark box. A man can dream...
Can you be a little more specific? Which product was this in? and how often have you seen it?

The sidebar type boxes in the APG PDF show up as having a sort of pale yellowish background colour for me – a lot of contrast between the background colour and the text (for example, the sidebar to do with hero points on page 324 of the APG).
Maybe it is your pdf reader or screen settings or something?

I'm not talking about sidebars. I'm talking about the spell names, for instance. In my physical copy of the APG, they're light writing on a dark brown box, but Adobe Reader 9 shows the PDF as using black writing on a dark brown box which is almost unreadable.
I wonder how I can change the font settings...
EDIT: On the plus side, it looks like I can turn off "Line Weights" and that gets rid of the brown boxes.

Not having that problem, My PDF looks exactly like the printed book.
I never upgraded to 9 on my PC because they took out the function of selecting images so I can't help you with settings, I am still using 8.

Ah, sorry, my mistake.
