I'm writing down items as they pop into my head, then making mechanics for them later.
Thanks to Abraham Spalding's posts in the wizards vs. melee thread for the inspiration. I've eyeballed this, and yes it needs a better name, but wanted to post it here for comments. And as always, blue Hermit needs editor, badly.
Shield Enhancer Ring.
Aura faint abjuration; CL 5th
Slot ring; Price 2000 gp (base); Weight --
Often made of mithral or darkwood, the first of these items was designed by an eldritch knight. The basic ring, after being worn for 24 hours, automatically extends all shield spells cast by the wearer. In addition, the ring can be further enchanted so that when a shield spell is cast by the wearer the spell has shield enhancement bonuses as found on table 15-3 armor and shields (pg 461, PFRPG). The cost of the enhancements is treated as though the ring itself were a +1 shield. So a shield enhancer ring of spell resistance (13) would cost 10,000 GP (2000 for the ring itself, +8000 for the price difference between a +1 shield and a +3 shield)
Construction
Requirements Craft Ring, Craft Magical Arms and Armor, Extend Spell, shield, plus any requirements of the shield special abilities; Cost 1000gp (base)

Cool idea, though allowing Shield to be cast as a swift action would be ultimately more useful than extending it, I would think. The ring would have to be more expensive of course...
Possibly allowing you to cast Shield into the ring and use its regular duration however you wanted in non-consecutive minutes at a time would be an even cooler mechanic.

I thought about that.
I figured that 2000 would be a good cost. It's 2/3 the cost of a metamagic rod, but it only works on shield, and affects every shield cast. So using that ad-hoc judgement, a quickened version would cost around 23-24,000 GP, before enhancements. I'd likewise increase the 'cost' of the shield to +2 or +3 because it's so useful.
Glad you like it, just don't go submitting it to RPG superstar :-)

I don't even know what RPG superstar is, so don't worry : )
I'm reminded of the Abjurant Champion. If you haven't already (and I suspect you probably have considering the material), I would suggest checking that out from 3.5 in Complete Mage. It's a class that revolves, in a way, around the Shield spell.
