Nualia in Skinsaw [Spoilers]

Rise of the Runelords

My group just finished Burnt Offerings last week. In the process of clearing Thistletop (which they have claimed as their own) they captured Bruthazmus, Nualia, and Lyrie. At the Glassworks, they captured Tsuto. All of these prisoners were later sent to Magnimar to be tried.

Nualia, Lyrie, and Bruthazmus escaped (thanks to Ironbriar), though they killed Bruthazmus soon after. Tsuto was sentenced to join the Black Arrows.

I'm hoping to add Nualia and Lyrie as an encounter somewhere in The Skinsaw Murders. I can't very well put them with Xanesha if I want any of my players to survive, so I was considering having them join Ironbriar at the Sawmill. I'm also considering making them a seperate encounter, but then I would need to write in a reason for the players to find them.

I'll be statting up Nualia as an Antipaladin and leveling up Lyrie. I was hoping to get some suggestions for a good way to integrate them into this adventure.

Dark Archive

Lyrie really isnt much of the fighter type more a lover of history, so I'm not sure she would even return to the region OR if she did return she would be pouring over some tomes looking up the history of where she was.

For me, I wouldnt have Nualia staying around with Ironbriar (after all he help them avoid any charges). Instead I would either have Nualia:

1) Go back to Thistletop, since she knows the PCs are now in Magnimar and retake the complex by recruiting another tribe of goblins, since there are like 6-7 tribes in the area. She does want to please her goddess and release the Bharghest

2) Establish her own place in Magnimar, and trail the PCs trying to assassinate them using some local thugs or possibly Ironbriar's lackeys.

Once one of those two options happen then I can see Lyrie coming back to help, but not as any type of muscle..

I like both of these ideas, and will probably use one or both of them. The players are quite happy owning Thistletop, and attacking it would be fun.

You're right about Lyrie too, I might just have her vanish.

Liberty's Edge

Another idea would be to postpone her return until later.

Nualia's motivations are almost entirely to make the town suffer. With that in mind, she might work well as a thorn in the side who organizes occasional nuisance attacks but always seems to escape until she links up with the Stone Giants in part 4. It is then she who convinces the giants to attack to kill Sandpoint rather than just attack to just get a stone from the Old Light for Stone Tell. Maybe she leads an attack of Mosswood Goblins at this time in conjunction with the Stone Giant attack - something that would be no more than a nuisance for mid level PCs but would add colour and closure to that battle.

Don't Lyrie and Nualia hate each other?

I the module at least Lyrie is very jealous of Tsuto's love of Nualia.

I would have Lyrie turn on Nualia and help the party hunt her down.

It could be a good device to use in case the party ever gets stuck.

Of course by then Nualia should level and have some more followers to help her in the fight. Maybe she's transformed more too...

Lyrie is verry stuck on Tsuto, even stole his hairbursh with his hair in it to keep it around... she would definately help the PC's go after the White Witch ;) But as a historian, she is a candidate for the Cyphermages of Riddleport :) Or for the Great Library of Magnimar that they forgot to lable on the Map :( But mentioned in Rise of the Runelords...

In my Campaign Tsuto escaped and started training with a local Monk in Magnimar and started hanging out with one of the Thieves Guilds there and leveled up before being recruited by an Assassins Guild, before he went aftert the Party again mid level :)

Also a good idea.

Generally good feedback from everyone. Much appreciated. :)

I'll take a look at that, thanks.
