Poison Potency

Rules Questions

I appologize if this question has been asked before but I've wondered about this since the game was first released. I like the changes to poisons and such, I think they make things a little more relevent in combat and make more sense. But there is one thing missing, what would be the change in potency for smaller/larger creatures such as giant scorpions and spiders. I've tried to find a logical answer and it doesn;t seem to work for me. Any ideas from those in the know?

Well, currently the only thing that changes with the various sizes is the save DC. Its constitution based, so you have to figure out what the difference is in the sizes Con mod and that's how much the save DC changes.

I do kind of miss the differences in poison damage of the different sizes, but they simplified it for pathfinder I think.

Aside from the DC (which is I believe correct the only thing that changes according to the rules) I'd also consider perhaps a lengthening in the durations - perhaps by 1 or 2 rounds for every size category grown (or 1 or 2 rounds for size down). This has the same net effect as raising the damage did in 3.X. (I can't give you any specifics - I fear this is the sort of thing you have to eyeball yourself.) It shouldn't be terribly game breaking/CR altering, since poison overall is pretty hit or miss.

Poison is one of those thing that i really do not think size should have any effect on.

Large creatures already get a +Con/Str, while small creatures tend to get -Con/Str.

This alone should be enough of a bonus/penalty when cross referenced vs poison.
