PC taking over one of the NPCs... (Spoiler)

Serpent's Skull

Liberty's Edge

I am presently preparing to run SS (we will start in january 2011).
While talking to my players about their ideas for their pcs, one came up with a backgroundstory, which is pretty close to

Spoiler:
Sasha Nevah's background. I now wonder, if I could just let the player take the role of Sasha, without letting him know - using another npc (associated to another group, using material from the faction and npc guide) instead of Sasha.
The pcs background has also a lost father, which the pc is about to search, as she doesn't get along with her mother, and the mothers business. Last time she heard, her father was on its way to the Mwangi Expanse, in search of something (maybe this has something to do with what the Red Mantis is hoping to find in Saventh-Yhi).

Do you guys think this might cause problems? I am presently thinking, that it might be perfect to get the pcs into the "faction war" about Saventh-Yhi and there might be some pretty fine dilemmas/choices to be solved for that particular pc.
Thoughts?

Sounds good to me. Run with it!

Sure why not?

there really isnt any reason to even use the other NPCs,

when we were on the Shiv, they stayed shadowy and formless, largely because the PCs didn't give a dang about them.

When a few PCs died, we used the "excess" NPCs as new PCs and since they hadnt been formed out, the PCs made what they wanted, and the excuse of how they got there was "another one of the castsaways"
