Creating an Iron wood wild breastplate

Rules Questions

Greetings, fellow travellers.

I have gone through almost all threads on item creation, but I just want to be sure, I got this correct, since I am the one bringing up magic item creation as a player action in my group for the first time.

OK, here we go:

My druid needs better armor. We do not have access to dragon hide/scales or what not and the whole decision is really based on fluff.
I am about to hit lvl 11 - so I thought about using the iron wood spell, the wild enchantment and my wooden breastplate to create myself the armor that fits my druid.

The pricing would be - [b]and please correct me, where I am wrong[\b]:

  • breastplate 200gp (might be less or zero, since i will use wood shape...)
  • masterwork 150gp
  • +1 enchantment 1000gp
  • wild enchantment 9000gp
  • continous iron wood 66000gp (6 x 11 x 2000gp/2)

for a total of 76350gp, which will take 76 days to make (rounded donw).

I know, it will be a lot cheaper if I just stick with the first four items and cast iron wood every eleventh day - but again, the decision would be based on fluff reasons.

  • +1(armor)+ wild(+3)=+4

That means it is priced as +4 armor.
    +4 armor = 16000 not 10000

As far as the continuous spell affect it is really intended for non-weapons and armor, and the pricing chart is a guideline when making up brand new items.

The DM would have to judge the price of a continuous iron wood for the armor. I would not price it any higher than dragonhide. That would be like punishing you for the RP decision of not using dragonhide armor, IMHO.

Concerro is correct. The item creation pricing guidelines are just that - guidelines, and newer players should avoid them strenuously, if possible. A better alternative to pricing is to compare the item you want to make to existing items. In this case, what benefits does this item give you over a normal item of its kind, and what other item is it similar to? Base the price off of this, and, as always, work closely with your DM to come to a good price.

I also agree with Concerro on the "Don't punish the player for RP reasons" (assuming of course the RP reasons don't grant inordinate power). In this case, however, I'd suggest just looking up the Bronzewood special material and crafting your armor from that. It functions like ironwood in many ways but is like darkwood in its availability as a special material.

Greetings, fellow travellers and thanks for answering!
