Tower of the Last Baron module
After years of neutrality, the honeyed tongues and diabolical gifts of devil-worshiping ambassadors from Cheliax have finally convinced Baron Vendikon of Andoran to pledge his allegiance to the enemy. Now, as the baron’s conflicted subjects hastily fortify his position and a reluctant Andoren general marches on the tiny town of Piren’s Bluff, a few brave souls must infiltrate the tyrant’s stronghold and put an end to his treason before one man’s arrogance costs hundreds of innocent lives.

Once a day posting (for me)
Its really a sandbox style module and I want you to feel totally free with your backgrounds and alliances. Lets make this fun and interesting.
I've never DMed PbP or Pathfinder, so if you're impatient about that stuff consider this your heads up. I've DMed a few chat-based 3.5 games, and am a player of DnD. I've been wanting to play Pathfinder though, so lets play.
Only other thing is I'm not doing grids for battles. However, I love the tactics of wargames such as this so will encourage use of cover, terrain, etc. I'd also like there to be a mature RP atmosphere, so I'll be looking for that in character sheets.
It would be great to do class selection after we all get together, but isn't necessary.
For stats, you can choose to do standard roll, dice pool, or 20pt purchase as described in the phb. I'm using the SRD mostly so try to keep selections of feats and such from paizo.
Any questions post here.

*Cautiously expresses interest*
Other than being 20 point buy, and wanting predominantly SRD-friendly stuff, what sort of other information would you like?
You mention collaboratively doing class selection, which suggests character generation after group selection...?
How will you be selecting players?
Mags
I'd like to give it a go. I've never tried PbP before, but as I'm having a hard time finding a group to play with in my area, I'd love to join in. I have a 5th level witch (20 point buy) I could play (and would like to play), but if you want to do character creation after you get the group together, I'm good with that as well.

I started playing this and it eventually died...I would love to finish it, I was having fun...
I believe this is the character I was playing, I would re-work him now since he was a beta build I believe.
That is indeed who you were playing. kikkoman, as one of the other players in that defunct game, I can highly endorse Paellat. Great concept and Xaaon is a fun RPer. If I wasn't strung out right now I would be trying to jump in with my character from that game. We had a good group, but had just reached the town when our DM ran out of steam.

Ok, great. Thanks for the interest.
Luke_Parry: I was wanting a character concept, not necessarily a background. But that's good too. I'll pick based on how interesting they sound (assuming there's a bunch of submissions).
Mags: Witch is cool, I have been wanting to see one in action. I said hold off on class really just because I didn't want to get a lot of awesome characters who were all rogues. (Also just to make a cohesive party)
I'll start reviewing the others in a few hours and probably close submissions tonight or about this same time tomorrow.

I couldn't remember the character I was playing; I had to look it up. That was two years ago! And I think it was during the Alpha playtest, not the Beta.

hogarth, that's right! You had that crazy gung-ho cleric of Gorum, Guligak. My fighter wanted to finesse everything and your cleric just wanted to fight.
Sorry about the threadjack. Our game was too short, but the characters were cool.
And Paellat wanted to investigate everything...heh

BTW all the OGL Pathfinder stuff beyond the SRD can be found on d20PFSRD
They have it clearly laid out what is Paizo content, and what is 3PP content, and what is fan-made content. It's all legal since Paizo clearly states what is OGL.
So I can either re-work Paellat using only core. or CORE/APG which of course would be more difficult for you since this is your first PRPG PbP game.
Paellat has a full background on his sheet btw....
I can re-write stuff to get rid of things like the wand rifle...

I was wanting a character concept, not necessarily a background. But that's good too.
Well, I do have a background written for Mags, but it's about 10 pages long, so I'll spare you that...
Concept-wise, she is a half-elven witch, largely untrusting of others and uncertain of her own abilities. Like all witches she has a familiar, but unlike most she didn't choose her familiar, it chose her. She is NG at heart, but her patron, the patron of plagues, sent the familiar to her to teach her to harness her innate arcane abilities. Mags only suspects who her actual patron is, and is having trouble reconciling this suspicion with her personality.
I realize the familiar bit isn't quite RAW, so I'm fine with changing that if you don't care for it.
Kozaric
I would like to join.
I am thinking a 5th Level 1/2 Elf Urban Ranger Skirmisher
or an Arcane Bard from APG.
Character concept: Lenorn Darlok, ex-military commando that left the military to strike out on his own as an adventure. " I live like a dirty old hobo adventurer anyway, always sleeping in the mud and looking over my shoulder, I may as well get some gold from it."
kikkoman
Ok, I see 6 people that want to join.
However,
Jervaise: Just would like a little something about the character beyond mechanics. Looks like maybe a dashing swordsman type? I don't mean to be a jerk asking for more info, I just want to be excited about these characters.
Lost Soul: Just a brief idea about the character if possible. I understand sometimes its hard without knowing class yet. The other thing is, its not likely I'll get many more submissions so you could probably hold out and be accepted anyways. Also, pretty much everyone has chosen so far anyways. Maybe listing the classes of other submissions will get you thinking, but again, not necessary to solidify on anything at this point:
Paellat Silvertongue : bard
Jervaise Toppington : rogue/fighter
Mags : witch
Llyrann : ranger/sorc
Kozaric : Urban Ranger / Arcane Bard ?
Lost Soul : ?
Mags: If by the familiar bit you mean the patron choosing you then that's great. If you mean some mechanical stuff, I don't see it there. But yeah, always feel free to take those kinds of creative steps. As long as there's not some unreasonable mechanical advantage I encourage that 200%. Like if you want to be the Baron's daughter, or maybe you have a history with other characters, all that stuff just adds to the narrative in my view.
Mags
Mechanically I didn't change anything. I did have the idea though that when she is communing with her familiar (a rat that she named Plague) to gain her spells each day, that any growth around her would wilt - a small area only, that would grow larger as she grew in power. Silly maybe, but as her patron is the patron of plagues, I thought it was an interesting idea. Of course, it would make the party easier to track in the wilderness as she is leaving a pretty obvious mark at each campsite...
Being the Baron's daughter would take a good bit of rewriting to her backstory, though I could easily work it in if she were an illegitimate child. I don't really know a lot about the setting unfortunately, so I don't know if that would work.
I'd love to work out some shared history with some of the other players. If anyone is interested, let me know. I don't want to presume anything. :)
kikkoman
Mags: Just throwing ideas out there. And yes, a better time might be when I open an OOC discussion for the game. I'll be sure to give everyone enough details to be comfortable with the setting.
But yeah, the wilting thing also is good. Those kinds of RP details are expected, really.
On the other hand if you don't have that kind of detail I won't judge you or call you a failure or anything weird like that. Some people are better on the fly when it comes to character concepts. I think the most important stuff comes about 50% through a characters life anyways, whatever is before should be malleable enough to become every kind of awesome.
What Kozaric said about his character is brief and perhaps not Pulitzer material prose-wise, yet it instantly gave me an idea of his character. I imagine if I sat down with him at a table he could instantly jump into a solid RP with that.
The flip side of that (how many flips now?) is that this is actually a PbP game; so, if you are a hardcore writer you can shine. You can look through those 10 pages of background and take a whole day to create the perfect response to a given situation.
Not sure where I'm going with this line of thought other than just to say "be comfortable with what you're doing".
Jervaise Toppington
Not a problem.
How is this for some extra info on the spin I intend to take with this character?
Despite his rather intimidating (if a little incongruous) appearance, Jervaise knows how to turn on the charm with quiet ease, and has a knack for getting people to share their stories...
To that end, he has made a career out of ferreting-out traitors to the republic, and returning them to the capital for trial. "I bring 'em back alive" is both his watch-word, and a source of great personal pride. Although he is quite willing to, and more than capable of, using strong-arm tactics to achieve his goals, he prefers an approach with a tad more finesse, and specializes in old-fashioned information gathering - in his experience, breaking bones does produce results, but coaxing people to hand-over information of their own free will tends not to produce enemies...
...However, when someone deliberately and willfully gets in the way of his pursuit of justice, the gloves come off...
kikkoman
Jervaise: Overall that's a great match for this type of adventure, and also this particular module. I was hoping someone would take that sort of position. If you do in fact go this route you'll be in the best position to have a smooth relationship with the main "good guys" as well as having a lot personally at stake. Not that that's required or anything, but I certainly don't see any problem.

As a GM for multiple PbPs I have this advice to give, make sure you keep it moving, cut corners where appropriate to keep the game moving. People get anxious, then they get bored, then they get forgetful, then they get gone.
I have been running 2 games for well over a year. Almost done with the first part of the Curse of the Crimson Throne AP...woo, that's a game I took over during the first real encounter...
kikkoman
With that solid advice, lets go ahead and close recruiting and move to The Discussion Thread. The 6 who submitted are most welcome.
