Firefinger

Homebrew and House Rules

Hello all,

Just a revamped 1e cantrip. Any thoughts?

Firefinger
School evocation [elemental – fire]
Level druid 0, sorcerer 0, wizard 0
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S
Range point blank (15 ft.)
Effect 1-6 rays
Duration instantaneous
Saving Throw none
Spell Resistance yes
This spell creates 1-6 rays of flame that spring from your finger and strike up to 6 creatures within range. Each ray must strike a separate creature and unused rays are wasted. You must succeed on a ranged touch attack with each ray to deal damage to a target. Each ray deals 1 point of fire damage.

Thanks,

David

You can't light a torch or Molotov cocktail with this or spark as written.
You could add that it starts at one ray and adds a ray every 2 levels up to 4. A first level spell does up to 5 of something.

The 1-6 rays is a bit open-ended. You should set up how many rays they have, not leave it up to the person to decide.

Why not simply take Ray of frost which does 1d3 cold damage and substitute fire. You can do it with a feat, but in my game "Ray of Fire" is a spell in it's own right. It gets around whatever quirky thing you're going for while simultaneously maintaining game balance.

I vote for Ray of Fire.
It can also light an actual torch, unlike messed up Spark.
