Big thanks... now I have to dig around for it.I think it makes a fine piece of RP equipment
BIG thanks for the link.
Just wondering WHY would anyone buy Field Plate? Heavier than Banded Mail by 15 lbs, and nearly 5X more expensive for no other gain (even RP bonuses for having shiny armour). In fact it wieghs the same as Full Plate but is just 250 cheaper... Epic fail.
Now at 750 gold? Half price as Full Plate, slightly more than Half Plate and the same stats as banded I could MAYBE see the attraction

Sean K Reynolds' reasoning ...
In 3.5, it had MaxDex of +2, but appearantly, that was overpowered. The Stone Plate was nerfed in a similar way, so it's back to full plate being the only heavy armor worth wearing after level 3.

Field plate with +8 over +2 max dex makes perfect sense. It allows a total of +10, just like full plate, and is good for those with a little bit extra dexterity.
The Adventurer's Armoury nerfs made no sense at all and I'm pretty much ignoring that book.
The field plate as in 3.5 (plus the +1 all non-light armours got in PF) finally was another heavy armour that made sense for characters above 1st level. Other than that, only full-plate makes sense.

Considering the changes to the brass knuckles in the APG, you might not be the only one ignoring that book ...
I won't be surprised if the revised campaign setting would include a more useful version of those armors. And maybe urumi and bladed scarf, too, what happened to the spiked chain was bad enough.| Ashiel |
Agreed. Bad game design is bad game design. Requiring a feat expenditure should in fact make a weapon vastly superior to anything you could just pick up and use, and considering how easily you can conceal a dagger which a bladed scarf has little advantage over without reach and similar abilities, it's pitiful.
The spiked chain was one of the only exotic weapons worth spending a feat on, and even then it was often overlooked by more experienced players who were smart enough to just wield a pole-arm and some gauntlets or armor spikes, to save a feat.
As KaeYoss noted, the armor nerfs make little sense as well.
