Favored Class

Maybe i'm an idiot, but i can't understand this point from the core rules.
Some races have the class they tend to stick to specified in their description and some don't :
Elves-ranger/wizard
Gmomes-sorcerer/bard
Dwarves-fighter/barbarian
All other races have no favored class specified.
But when talking of the favored class in the "char class" chapter it says anyone can choose his first lvl class as his favored class.
So does this mean that an elf could be a fighter or a druid and still choose fighter or druid as his favored class or not, since his are ranger/wizard ?

It does not matter what race from the core book, you can pick any class as a favoured class. It does not have to be your 1st level class either.

Just to add
All races can have favored class with +1 HP or +1 Skill bonus.

But in APG, some races don't have the special "APG" favored bonus for some classes:
ex: Elves may choose between +1 HP or +1 Skill or a special APG bonus for Barbarian, Bard, Cavalier, Fighter, Ranger, Sorcerer, Wizard.

But Elves may only choose between +1 HP or +1 Skill for other classes (Alchemist, Cleric, Druid, Inquisitor, Monk, Oracle, Paladin, Rogue, Summoner, Witch).
